THE POLICE PROBLEM

3930 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

This is a horror movie but it’s actually happening. I am ashamed of my country and what it’s become.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Remember forever: there were never any good Republicans.

[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

But…but MTG is starting to say some things that I agree with now /s

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 84 points 4 days ago (1 children)

honestly this is prob a good tactic for us. Citizen? See ICE? Get attention. Feign concern. Book it. Distract them. exhaust them. sue them. (outcomes vary based on skin tone, caveat emptor.)

[–] errer@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago

Get your throat stepped on, get shot in the back, get run over by their cars…it’s so easy!

[–] varnia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

It was so hard to prevent him from getting the votes he needed to win. Now everyone else has to pay the price and deal with the consequences of your decision while you sit at home and can say: aT leAst i dIdn'T VotE FOr faCisT dEmoCrats! Good job...

Yeah, so you guys have been saying that for a long time now...

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Haven't seen any ICE action on the streets. I am prepared to fight. With lead.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 7 points 4 days ago

Organize your militia, and free an ICE facility!

No running from the dudes who show up and spread tear gas and rubber bullets? We gotta stand there politely while they harass people?

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 53 points 4 days ago

I’m sure the business owner is real fucking happy about that, too.

[–] kometes@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

This is my plan. If come upon ICE fucking with ppl, I intend to speak Spanish, act suspicious, and get detained. If they are wasting resources on me, perhaps someone else gets away.

Plus I have the means for the fun lawsuit I get to file...

"Attention shoppers, there are masked gunmen in the store, please evacuate in an orderly fashion"

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 30 points 4 days ago (1 children)

ICE Agent: "Back up, you don't know what's going on."

Apparently, neither do you?

[–] bear@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

That's one of their standard lines now. Gas lighting Americans.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 37 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I know that it would end poorly for whoever did it and would probably escalate the overall invasion, but I wanted so hard to watch a MFer drop kick that NAZI in the face that had that kid on the ground. A drop kick would have been a good start, but stomping this dude's face into the pavement and taking him out if the equation is what's needed. Fuck ICE.

Yeah, gotta be careful since many parking lots have cameras. But if somebody were to do such a thing in Minecraft, they should immediately bolt and not look back. Don't hang around, just do your thing then bounce.

[–] Aeao@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

In mine craft the police are known for being kinda crappy at catching people. It’s less than a coin flip.

The best advice for any Minecraft crime is just do the thing and leave quickly.

“Lots of things are legal if you can run fast”

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Hr sure did take the time to mask back up when he saw her filming

Running away from a white supremisist terrorist gang

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

Nah. You attack my family, I’m not complying with any directions to back up. I’d escalate, consequences be damned.

Nah, don't want their STDs.
But I could think of alternatives to fucking them, which were quite pleasant - for me, that is.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago

I would read their obituary with grim satisfaction.

This is FREEDOM! And if Republicans thought it WASNT Freedom they could EASILY Stop it With their Majorities!

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Real disappointed that Walgreens allows this shit.

I mean, I’m pretty disappointed with the entire country allowing this, but I’m still calling out businesses that have a lot more power to stop this shit than the rest of us inmates do.

[–] Limonene@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What should they do that could prevent this? I don't think these gestapo asked before entering.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They’re a large corporation. They could protest a hell of a lot louder than the guy that got chased out of their store.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

The large corporations don’t care until it hurts their bottom line significantly. Unless it’s the tariffs and they’ve kowtowed to Trump after threats to make it worse.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

"Vibes" is putting it rather lightly. It's just "gestapo," full stop.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is not that strange if you accept and begin acting like the New American Civil War has already begun.

He will keep us fighting each other so the entire Epstein cabal can keep sipping pina coladas and pay for political campaigns.

It’s okay, many of us would be happy to see the US role in the world significantly reduced, but the problem is, once the US is liberated by Russia or China, the we have a new problem.

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 21 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Liberated.. By Russia? Who do you think is causing all of this shit?

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

hey, america is doing evil shit on its own, don't give Russia all the credit

This got me thinking again about a fleeting thought I had the other day.

Would it be racist to put on 'blackface' in the high nazi areas to distract them?

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If you’re in the store start tipping shelves and causing chaos. Make the store owners fell the pain of the ICE thugs.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 24 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Wrong attitude. You should start tipping shelves because the sight of armed gunmen in tactical gear caused you to panic causing you to "run into things in your haste to get away from the situation." That is a reasonable reaction in a court of law. I highly doubt the store owners had anything to do with ICE showing up, but fuck them in principle for price spiking during inflation.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Oh right plausible deniability. Just in case there is video footage.

When will the NS cosplay be over?
