What are your Background Music when Reading a Book?

For example when I was reading The Lord of the Mysteries I was mostly listening to Tchaikovsky's classical music and similar music. This was the playlist

I can't listen to anything while reading.

The narrator in my head. I'm not a speed reader.

I've never in my life listened to anything while I read, and I love reading. Except like on a train/plane in order to drown out other noises. But do what makes you happy:-).

i like silence, it helps me "see" and "hear" whats going on the the story. any sort of sound beyond the white noise of my a/c is distracting.

The audiobook. Helps me focus.

so you're reading the book while listening the audiobook? that sounds like a good idea.

I read much faster than the audiobook though, what do you do then?

Not OP but I do the same thing. I read ebooks on my iPad and Kindle. There’s a feature if you have the audiobook and ebook on the Kindle app, where it’ll highlight the word that is being spoken, but if you move to the next page, the audiobook will jump to where you are.

I do too, but sometimes I have to remind myself it is a good thing to relax and slow down. This is one method.

Music without lyrics, maybe someone like Andy Mckee.

The sound of my own voice in my head. Reading takes me a decent amount of focus. I plod along, sometimes having reread a whole page. I like quiet for sure.

Nothing, that's utterly distracting.

I like to use Brian Eno's ambient series of albums for reading! Music designed to be "ignored" makes for a more focused reading session for me. I would encourage anyone who is easily distracted by other types of music to give it a try.

Either sports or news talk radio quietly in the background.

I tend to tune out the stuff that doesn't interest me while I focus on the book but then if they say something that grabs my attention I will pause reading and pay attention to the radio.

For me I can usually listen to whatever, as I tend to zone out while reading the books and the audio not being an issue. If I really hate the genre (looking at you country!..) then I would very much switch songs. This is the one thing I hate about myself though, and it is because I cannot listen to audiobooks for the life of me - I zone out in the middle of listening making me lost when I come back to reality.

The study beats stream on youtube, or whatever playlist I'm in the mood for.

[-] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Anything loud to drown out all the other noise around me at all times.

[-] oehm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Usually music without any vocals. Jazz, electronic, or classical.

I have no idea. I used to put a CD on, and then only notice the music when it finished.
