but I was told NATO was a defensive alliance...

[–] GiantSpoonWielder@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 year ago

The best defense is a good... encircling of potential rivals with disposable puppet states who prop up your inflated MIC.

I refuse to believe the europeans are so stupid to go to war with Russia. By their own admission the armed forces of basically all of NATO countries are in such a bad state that it will take decades to recover. No european NATO country has the military industrial capacity to compete with Russia, let alone win. And what little they have in stock already has been transfered to Ukraine. Specially in the case of Germany and the UK. What are they going to do? Fight Russia with the old Soviet and Warsaw pact equipment, run out of it the first week and then buy sone more from Russia? Chauvinism is no replacement for armor and ammo. Why would they think they can fight? Just because the gringos are cheering on them?! I do believe Europe has an enormous debt to the global south, but not to the point of continetal suicide and global catastrophe.

The media keeps telling them that each "Saint javelin" (actual circulating meme) takes a gazillion orcs every time it's used, likewise for every destroyed leopard or Bradley. The leap from this to "sure, it's in Bad shape, but together we shall persevere!" is not that far away.

No european NATO country has the military industrial capacity to compete with Russia

Not everyone in Russia understands this, much less in Europe

I also didn't believed they will commit economical seppuku since 2022 but they did, and many does so enthusiatically.

They absolutely are stupid enough and the libs will absolutely join the ~~dumbledore's~~ army to fight the evil Putler!

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 year ago

Europeans fighting zero-sum wars is historically accurate.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think France is stupid enough but Germany did say they wouldn’t drop troops in Ukraine so I think that’s admission of not wanting a direct war with Russia on their end. I do think the US and Canada are stupid enough to push it, though.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What Germany thinks and wants is irrelevant. They will do as they are told by Washington. They didn't even dare speak up about the US blowing up their main energy supply pipeline. They are a completely subjugated vassal state.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah, you’re right. At the end of the day they will follow their handlers to their own detriment. It’s a terrifying reality for everyone involved, Europe and North America. With the UK implementing a draft, I wonder which other countries will follow…

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago

The germans were stupid enough to let the US blow up the pipeline they invested in, they are absolutely stupid enough.

Sounds like a threat. I mean, nato has been at war with Russia for years, but putting it out like that is a threat

Hey, don't think in 'ifs', think in 'whens' 😊 #motivationmonday #lifegoals #staypositive

Wait, but today is Friday my dude 😜

That’s a bad move for NATO since Putin just had a speech where he said if NATO drops troops in Ukraine he will use nukes.

[–] nephs@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, but NATO controllers has been doing desperate instead of sane for a long time. Why bring the world to retaliatory nuke situation?

That's a bad move for everyone.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 year ago

They’re hungry for mutually assured destruction at the expenses of everyone who didn’t consent to this and it’s terrifying.

[–] destroyamerica@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

honestly think he's bluffing at this point. why would he use nukes and risk reprisal when Russia is honestly in a better state military production wise than NATO?

edit: to be clear, I would really rather not find out lol

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I hope he’s bluffing but when it comes to these matters it seems you have to take it seriously. Threats like these don’t work if you believe they won’t follow through on it. I only say this because we learned about nuclear war strategies in my PoliSci class yesterday and my professor mentioned this Putin speech. He seems quite worried about escalation and so am I.

[–] destroyamerica@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think we're on the same page, I'm not happy about the west continuing to try and provoke russia lol

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 year ago

We definitely are on the same page, I just talk to talk :)

[–] MasterDeeLuke@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Well then, round of applause to Finland and Sweden for making themselves obliged nuclear targets in the case where this person isn't just speaking sore loser bullshit.

[–] Mzuark@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 year ago

They're obviously trying to scare people into supporting Ukraine. I doubt it'll work much longer.
