This morning's harvest

Not a bad return on investment for the potatoes - I had a small patch in the front yard I planted about a dozen sprouting potatoes from the cupboard.

You got this. It's a weird sensation, spending that much money on something you won't hold in your hand for another 30/60/90 days. Once the buyers remorse fades out, there's a wonderful sense of security coming your way too. And the power to hang pictures and shelves wherever you want them!

[-] wscholermann@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago

I understand the gut wrenching sickening feeling. But for what it's worth it will subside.

[-] Grackle@aussie.zone 12 points 6 months ago

Last minute decision made to go down to Geelong for Chemical Brothers. I'll be going alone but I've heard good things about this show so I think it will be worth dealing with the nightmare that is Mt Duneed estate parking.

The little one seems to be getting hit hard by this antibiotic. Sheโ€™s really not feeling well. I might ring the vet today and check if thatโ€™s normal

[-] legios@aussie.zone 10 points 6 months ago

Good week overall I think. Work has been a bit crazy which I'm trying to sort out with management to slow things down a bit for the sake of my team and my own mental health. Plus being at conferences doesn't help...

Been losing a decent amount of weight too, about 10kg in the last 3-4 weeks and starting to 'regain' the muscle I had when I was younger and a gym freak. I think this is more just getting my muscles used to regular exercise again so it'll plateau soon. Just trying to get in to a health(ier) routine all in all.

Sadly missed the weekly online co-op gaming session with friends since someone messed up the days. Also bought some new furniture to make the place feel a bit more homely.

So all in all, doing pretty well.

I may not be available to make the next Daily Thread. I'll be here, just might not be able to press buttons. So if anyone is up at that time could you please do it. Thank you.

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago

No probs. Someone will step up - might even be me.

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yeah, apparently things are normal. Melbcat is unhappy though. She didn't want to eat her usual medicated dinner so I tossed it (to avoid double dosing) and resorted to mixing a meds cocktail in an oral syringe. Then gave her the hated antibiotic. Plain cat food was also given as a chaser but I can't see from here if she ate it.

She's having a cuddle while everything kicks in. I'm hoping the anti-nausea pill that was crushed in there helps.

I really can't overstate how amazing exercise is for mental health.

Woke up feeling like shit. Went to the gym and mood has improved 10 fold.

[-] tone212_@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yep, whenever Iโ€™m in a funk I go lift heavy things in the gym or even just a walk outside and I feel instantly better. Love those endorphins.

Whew it's been a long day of non stop social stuff from 10-5:45, after several hours of dinner last night. Happy to have a break before more social stuff tomorrow arvo/evening then interview on Monday. My physical and social muscles are so out of use...

Now's a good time to use up my desperately flowering basil and make some pesto, picked up some orzo pasta and mushrooms to go with. Been ages since I've made orzo/risoni

[-] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

Good morning.

Last week was awful, but the weekend so far has been good.

Collingwood documentary last night. I would follow Fly McRae into the mouth of hell.

Peanut butter bagel and a cup of tea this morning, and gym soon to follow.

Afternoon to myself. Might back up my hard drive and potter around

Dinner with a friend tonight

Life is good

I miss the days when there were fun little phone game aps that didnโ€™t have a billion pop up adds or ongoing subscriptions or constant nagging to buy treasure chests. Sometimes I just want something a bit mindless to occupy me while waiting for appointments and feel like that golden era has gone. Now Iโ€™ll browse social media or news websites but itโ€™s not really the same.

I think I'm officially giving up on trying to clean the baked-on grease in my air fryer. I might leave it downstairs at the "free to good home" shelves in my building and go buy a new one. It's a shame because it's a pretty good one but cleaning it sucks (and I was lazy for too long and now it needs more serious attention than I'm willing to give it.. I've tried a few things but I'm done).

Note that is one of those times where I think of doing something, write about it online then will likely have bought the new one inside of an hour or so. That's just how things happen here.

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

Screams in 'waste not, want not'. Still, I do understand how bloody hard it is to clean baked-on grease. I assume you have tried all the various iterations of baking soda? And oven cleaner spray?

I had a Herbert Adams beef and mushroom pie and it was the most tasteless pie I've ever eaten. They were bought because they were half price. Even that was too much to pay.
