Here's Krogers ad for today. Chicken drumsticks and thighs are still $0.99. a pound. Chips are up 50 cents.

These meat prices are crazy. They must have hefty subsidies in the US.

Unfortunately we do. Tens of billions of dollars. Same with corn, which is why virtually every single food product has high fructose corn syrup as one of the top ingredients

Sometimes they get paid to grow things and sometimes they get paid to not grow things.

The ad for my store is bit more expensive. I can't remember the last time we had apple or pork shoulder prices under a dollar per pound. I'm in northern Indiana for what it's worth.

Oooh. 2 lb of strawberries for $3.49. Can you grab me one of those?

Old flyers are cool when they're not relatively recent grocery ones. Electronic ones from a few decades ago can be interesting for example. I'd be interested in a whole community dedicated to them (but this post is still welcome here of course).

I picked 2019 as it was pre-COVID and before all the "inflation".

It's interesting for sure, but more depressing than cool.

A vintageads community would be great!

I guarantee you the internet archive will have a ton of them

I don't think I can get a twelve pack of coke for $6 these days.

[-] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 10 points 6 months ago

I was in Kroger last week, they raised 12 packs of Coke products to $9.99 each and then put them on sale.

Its weird that soda now costs almost the same as beer. I get 30 racks for $20. I was recently at a gas station with some friends getting snacks, regular 16oz soda bottle were $2.50, tall cans of voodoo ranger were $3. I wasn't even planning on drinking but I'll take an IPA over overpriced sugar water any day.

[-] protist@mander.xyz 7 points 6 months ago

They know you'll pay it because you're addicted to their flavored sugar water

You guys really have it easy in America

[-] Late2TheParty@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

Yeah, I definitely shouldn't have looked at this today (or any day).

[-] HubertManne@kbin.social 3 points 6 months ago

Yeah and this is where I say at least my wages have no where near kept up with inflation. What really gets me is the fast food places and pop. When the cheapest stuff goes up the most its not a good sign. on a seperate note I have never seen an ad like this. who the heck is going to buy legs and thighs if its the same price as breast?

[-] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I really don't want to see this
