Not being funny, but the same people went ahead and voted Johnson in. Should we really be surprised that our government is run by a load of self serving a**holes?

Johnson only won a big majority because of the opposition.

It was rather like choosing between syphilis and gonorrhea.

You're right. Corbyn, Johnson or Farage.

Depressing. I can't even remember who the lib dem leader was, Swanson?

I can't believe you'd forget Britain's next Prime Minister Jo Swinson.

I don't understand how someone with the vibes of a supply teacher gets chosen to lead a political party

It's not like the Lib Dems had many options considering how many MPs they lost in 2015.

Close. Swan song

I'm old enough to remember when "cash for questions" was an earth shattering scandal. That wouldn't even appear on the news radar today. It's shocking how far the UK has fallen.

Third world corruption from third rate politicians.

I live in America and I barely know anything of UK politics, but I could have told you that.

I can't help but feel the only reason the Tory's are resigning and taking a stance now is that they have an opportunity to blame it on the brown guy.

And also, lol at Nadine Dorries resignation letter where she basically lists all the awful things that she thinks RIshi Sunak should have been doing more awfully. Like "hasn't drowned enough immigrants", "hasn't nuked france" (actually, that one is ok), "hasn't invaded scotland"...

[-] wewbull@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago

No, they just don't want to fight elections they know they'll lose. They're not taking a stance. It entirely self serving, the same as the rest of their political careers. Just avoiding the humiliation on election night.

Well that parses too

Well, yeah. That's also why there was a curious shortage of white men in the last round of leadership elections (was it just Tugendhat?). Glass cliff phenomenon.

oooh TIL. That's a good one. Definitely covers Theresa May.

[-] Mrkawfee@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

yeah he's basically the human shield in the same way that Theresa May was for the ERG nutjobs. Paving the way for a "true" English nationalist to lead the zealots.

The Tories are renowned for their gender bias. They treat female MPs and leaders very differently to males. There has never been any indication of institutional racism. I despise the current batch of Tories. They are nothing but a bunch of con merchants. They use racism for the populist vote, but unfortunately you cannot really accuse them of institutional racism against Sunak.

[-] Treczoks@feddit.uk 1 points 1 year ago

Well, they are not exactly wrong with that.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(
