younger me would’ve freaked out by the idea of having proprietary files
That's good for starters. What do you mean by "younger me would’ve freaked out by the idea of having proprietary files"? Exactly what proprietary files are you talking about? Background pics are usually jpeg, or png, and those are not proprietary to linux, so I think that's part of what has everyone confused about this. Are you also insinuating that people can only use certain backgrounds based on either belief or their own actual background? I am curious to hear your explanation if you aren't a llm. And by the way, saying you don't use chatgpt is exactly what I would expect chatgpt to reply with. LOL. I keed I keed.
When you say 'younger me' do you mean like four year old you, because eight year old current you doesn't make sense? I have no idea what the whole point of this post is, other than it must be some chatgpt output someone thought would be funny to throw out.
If you hadn't told me, I would have put my money on that being a Lamborghini.
Wow. Sorry that happened. As a long time linux user I am really unhappy with the way Ubuntu has gone recently. Enough so that when I was dropping in my new video card I didn't even consider using that distro anymore. The whole snap thing just rubbed me wrong, and on top of that I was getting a message that if I didn't join their subscription thing, that I wouldn't get all of the updates available. Now there were explanations that that wasn't the actual case, but their wording just really rubbed me wrong, even if it was a 'free' subscription for up to five machines, etc. Back to your situation, I think it might be time to explore some other distros as they might be a better fit for you, and more of a plug and play experience for you. My suggestion would be to install a VM like Virtualbox and then download some .iso files and use them on some new virtual machines that you can run and get a basic idea of how they work/look/feel. After you find one that fits your needs you can migrate. Just remember, when people start giving you grief, just give them the old grep -v... That will make them go away.
I am confused, because you ask for it to be more plug and play, complain about using the terminal to install, and then say you gave up and installed it the plug and play way by using the Ubuntu store. It reads like you are complaining that you have to drive to another city and you aren't getting there in time because you are pushing the car. So you eventually get in and drive the car and insist that pushing it was "the right way"...
Your entire explanation, while amazing, makes me sad at the exact same time.
The boardgame Heat is one of my all time favorites. Thunder Road Vendetta is right up there too, and I am waiting to put them together for an all road race/rage saturday with my boardgame peeps.
Mildly off topic, but as a steam deck user, not another penny to rockstar from me. They can suck a bag of dicks.
Same here. Facebook I am still on only because of a handful of people I know are there.
Don't take this wrong, but I am going to pick on this statement in particular. This is mainly the reason that we are all in the position we are in right now. No one can be the least bit inconvenienced and are allowing third party companies to just rape our privacy and then turn around and sell it to the highest bidder. I mean hey, I have a handful of people I know too, and I just use the phone to connect with them. If you have facebook loaded on your phone right now you are giving them all the data they can scape about you just to keep in touch with a handful of people. I am willing to bet the app is running right now collecting data on where you are at this exact moment, how long you have been there, if any data they have access to has changed like contact info for anyone in your contact list and not just your handful of people, calls you make or receive, etc. I could go on and on down to the level of how long your screen stays unlocked. Everyone I speak with about social media has an excuse of why they continue on with total disregard for their own, and other's privacy. Yes, people I know that are using facebook exposes me to their system by proxy. I don't know what it's going to take to wake people up out of this, but it sure looks gloomy and as long as people are making statements like this, and not actually taking action nothing will change. Again, sorry to pick on you in particular, but damnit, it's not that hard to keep in touch with people and not supply some company with a treasure trove of YOUR data.
If you have multiple profiles set up on one switch, before you start a game it will ask you which profile is playing. Any save info for that gaming session will be tied to that profile. Anyone with a Switch can use the physical media with the caveat that only one person can be playing it at a time. Now if you buy the games online, you won't need the physical media, but the game is tied to the account. As for cost, well it can get expensive and my family usually reserved the large purchases for things like birthdays or christmas. If I had a nickel for every dollar I have spent on gaming systems over the years, I would be able to retire. :)
Gotcha. Well, I guess being an old guy and having never correlated someone's computer background to any kind of meaning other than they like that particular background, I guess I don't see anything into it. But hey, I work with a bunch of terminals all day long so there's not an opportunity to customize things there, and the one work machine that has a gui, I have just left the background as the default. That is a rule of mine, nothing personal on the work laptop.
