I always viewed the difference as intent and not mutually exclusive. reason explains your thought process, actions, and events. Excuse are reasons presented in a manor meant to shift responsibility.

having been through this exact situation, I get the point of the meme, and realize their intent was that "doctor" should be read as "healthcare industry". Just poor word choice. Other side of the story, the healthcare professionals that cared for him where wonderful and did everything they could for him and I am totally OK with them getting paid for their efforts.

for my kids @ 4 I taught them if you see a gun, don't touch it...go get an adult. @ 7 started BB gun and had to show muzzle / Triger discipline and recite the rules of firearm safety EVERY time we went out to shoot it.
