You can sideload apps on iOS. There are however highly annoying limitations.

I like Kubuntu, mostly because I’m familiar with Ubuntu and I like KDE. Unfortunately, I had to move back to Windows 10 because of a professional app that I couldn’t get running.

When I was trying to make Kubuntu work. I installed flatpak so I would primarily use apps from flathub. The snaps were actually pretty useful if there were issues with the flatpak and the native binary. I also force installed the official Mozilla Firefox binary which was pretty easy. Personally I didn’t mind having snaps as an option. At least in Kubuntu it was easy to select which version of the package you wanted in the GUI.

Before I realized snaps could be useful I messed around with uninstalling snaps but they don’t make it easy or straightforward. It’s easiest just to ignore them if you don’t like them. Or pick a different distro if that’s a deal breaker for you.

Otherwise Ubuntu had the fewest issues/annoyances of the distros I tried. But maybe I’m just used to Ubuntu having toyed around with it for years.

Damn, I’m not sure I have the stamina for 3 weeks of that.

There are definitely great games these days. I’m not saying bias/nostalgia doesn’t factor into it, but legitimately the AAA space is not doing great. Sony spent most of their first party money on free to play games this generation, some of which failed spectacularly. Nintendo has bragged to investors that they are producing fewer games and selling them for higher prices. Xbox has not had significant output since the 360, lately Microsoft has been laying people off at Xbox to move people to AI. The big third parties are… EA and Ubisoft…

There are great games but most of the really interesting stuff is in the indie space and a lot of people don’t want to hunt for that.

The AAA gaming space has been ruined by letting the scope of their games get out of hand. (Does borderlands 4 really look that much better than borderlands 3?) and by greed partially to manage that ballooning scope but also to line the pockets of executives and investors. Which is also the reason for the push to free to play.

I’m planning on moving to the IoT edition of windows 10 when support ends. It’s supported till 2032. Hopefully by then the professional apps I need will be sorted out on Linux.

I may be dating myself. But, I remember posting a similar comment during the Bush administration. 😭

It’s not like the democrats were running on raising taxes on the rich. Most registered democrats want the genocide in Gaza to end, most elected democrats have voted to continue funding it. Why would people vote for a political system that is not offering them anything?

Politics doesn’t begin and end with a ballot box.

Even 38% of people falling for this shit is too damn high.

I held onto jailbreaking till the end. I have a iPhone on iOS 17.0 and TrollStore for permanent sideloaded apps. It’s pretty awesome! There hasn’t been anything like a jailbreak or TrollStore since then. I wish I had bought an iPhone 15 on iOS 17.0 at launch so I could hold onto this as long as possible. Having a lower end iPhone I’ll probably need an upgrade in the next year or so.

You can get a similar experience to TrollStore by paying for an Apple developer account or a third-party signing service that abuses Apple developer accounts. It seems android users may have to do a similar thing in a few years.

Hi all, I was trying to get a Lemmy URL to open in the voyager app on iOS and I can’t figure out how to do it without logging in and saving it to my account. It would be much more convenient if I could add a shortcut to the share sheet like I have for Apollo.

I’ve tried modifying my Apollo shortcut to change http:// to voyager:// instead of to apollo:// but with no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

What’s the catch? This is the best deal I can find on the internet by a fair margin. This seller has an amazon store page as well and seems to have a good reputation on both. The seller claims its a new HDD from a reputable brand and offers a 5 year sellers warranty.

Edit: I have had 2 out of 3 ordered drives fail on me from this order. The seller was good about offering a refund. But I wouldn’t use these drives without at the very least some kind of redundancy if not a full backup.
