They're in too deep to admit how badly they obviously fucked up. Shit is gonna have to actually reach the ugly bitter end, leaving them no other possible explanation to try to hide behind. In the meantime, this must be what it felt like for the citizens of Rome as it burned.

I'm in it and don't GAF anymore.
That seems to be all that half the population will admit is the reality of the whole situation anymore.
But that requires you knowing what makes you happy. I've been depressed so long that almost nothing makes me happy anymore - especially with Nero actively burning down Rome all around us.
