Anyone aware of a target date for when FreeCAD 1.0 and/or Ondsel 2024.3 will be released?

Background:

I'm coming from using onshape, looking for a local opensource alt. After researching freecad (and forks) it seems if I was to start learning now, I'm in for a significant shift in workflow when 1.0 releases.

In its current state I'd lean towards ondsel.

Kind of putting off the switch till one or both implement the topo naming fix, and the other major ui changes for mainline, so I don't need to learn two different workflows.

But I'm getting antsy and want to get learning soon.

The TSA’s goal is to roll out the tech in all of the more than 430 airports that it covers, arguing that this kind of automation would reduce “friction” at airports — meaning, presumably, how long it takes passengers to move through security.

If you’re unhappy about the use of the tech, you can consider generating more friction next time you fly.

Good closing line

Atleast until after election time IMO.

As is pointed out on every @return2ozma post, there's other subs for that if you want to talk politics. Its clear the community is not enjoying the posts, they are heavily downvoted and spawn angry discourse every single time. Downvoting alone doesn't effectively filter the posts because of the small amount of content overall. Even heavily controversial posts are on the front page for weeks.

This is supposed to be a place to look at funny tweets not get infuriated at the US political system every time I open my feed.

Since there's no poll system implemented as far as I can tell...

1 Upvote = 1 vote to add rule against political posts

1 Downvote = 1 vote to keep the rules as they are

The frames of the recalled cargo bicycles can crack and can bend and break, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

"Fall hazard" seems like a bit of an understatement when the frame is snapping in half causing the fall.

Seriously... enough of this "oh well its not that bad, atleast we can still do this, or that. Maybe blockers will work but with less features, etc."

Fuck that shit

The extra [API] functionality already allows uBlock Origin on Firefox to work better than the Chrome version.

Always has been.

Tired of getting fucked by chr0me and g00gle? Stop spreading your cheeks and just use Firefox (librewolf, mull, et. al.) and uBlock Origin.

Simple as.

I do this and would not recommend for someone with arthritis. You have to have a strong grip to keep the hand grinder from spinning

Could dual boot your laptop or run windows in a VM as someone suggested. Onlyoffice was what finally solved the office compatibility problem for me during school. O365 is online anyways and works on Linux...

Replaced gboard with a FOSS keyboard without internet access on your phone? I use and like AnySoftKeyboard.

Are you on stock android or a privacy friendly ROM? That'd be #1 on my list. I use grapheneos on a pixel 8 and would recommend. Whether you have google apps on your phone or not they have access to everything you do on stock android 🤷‍♂️

Either way I think its important to recognize how much you've already done, and not stress about what you can't change yet. You're already more private than 99% of the general population and you aren't in school forever. I was in the same boat with a windows partition on my laptop for a couple windows only programs for school (online test invigilation can be a bitch for compatibility, windows in a VM generally doesn't work I found), but school ends and that partition is gone now.

TL;DR You're doing good, don't stress if you have to keep some stuff around for school, give onlyoffice a shot, look into privacy friendly ROMs for your phone.

So fuckcars but only when its sunny?

Frozen North checking in, just passed 1 year car-free biking everywhere, rain, sun, or snow. No such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.

And people that are too used to being comfortable all the time.

Hello folks,

Does anyone here have experience smithing in a (rural) residential zone WRT noise levels?

I'm talking the 2-5 acre lot size "country residential" type area, not shoulder to shoulder subdivision.

Do you find you're generally able to smith indoors/outdoors during the daytime or did you need to do any special modifications for noise reduction to keep good relations with the neighbours? Soundproofing required?

I was originally planning on having a (covered) outdoor area for a forge. But we were looking at 20+ acres originally. An interesting lot has come up but its smaller (4 acres) and closer to neighbours so I'm trying to figure out if we'd need to change our blacksmithing plans. If outdoor isn't possible on these lot sizes without complaints then I'd need to pull permits for a structure which would be a bear to get approved for noise reasons I'd reckon

Another good piece by the EFF. Its an important message to write about to your gov't representatives if it resonates with what you feel is the way forward with regards to the misguided "internet safety" laws so many countries are trying to pass right now

Lifetime is implied to be the lifetime of the company as is the case with LITERALLY EVERYTHING.

From an economic view: In this case as soon as you hit 13 months without filen going bankrupt you are literally free compared to the 200GB plan with Google Drive which you would still be stuck paying $4 CAD/month for 200GB long after the lifetime plan has paid for itself (assuming they don't increase monthly rates as time goes on, which they always do).

Go ahead and pay monthly if you want but you'll be in exactly the same position if a company goes under, except you would have paid a hell of a lot more than 35 Euro by that point.

Sorry if this reads like an ad; the link is a non-referral one. (I am broke though if anyone wants me to DM my referral link (10%) lol) I heard about it here and wanted to share for others that were interested by that original post but waiting for a sale.

Hello everyone I just figured I would share a PSA since filen.io's black friday sale seems to be live now. Filen is another good opensource (all their client apps) alternative to google drive, dropbox, icloud, MEGA, etc.

I've been checking this company out for the past week after I saw someone asking here if it was trustworthy. It seems legit; fairly young company which explains why they still offer lifetime plans as they are growing.

Its only like 35 Euro for a 200GB lifetime client-side encrypted cloud storage with no bandwith limits. I despise subscriptions so hard to argue with that for me.

I plan on using this for my offsite backups mainly.

EDIT: For christ sakes folks, Lifetime obviously means the lifetime of the company as is the case for ANY "LIFETIME" PRODUCT. That's been the legal meaning of the term when it comes to warranties and such for decades. Should I rename it "One Time Payment" so you guys can stop commenting that a company can go under? Newsflash if you pay monthly for dropbox and that company fails, same thing happens, except you'll have paid hundreds or thousands over the years (depending how long we're talking) for 200GB storage instead of a one time payment of 35 Euro. It will take ~13 months to break even with GDrive's 200GB plan so as long as filen lasts more than 13 months you still come out ahead. They have also stated in their blog that lifetime plans will increase in price down the road as they are currently being partially funded by their monthly plans. I would expect they will likely increase in price to similar to what pcloud charges for lifetime plans? IDK don't quote me.

Fuck Huy Fong Foods. Chinese-American businessman appropriates a traditional Thai sauce and uses marketing to brainwash the world into thinking they're the only ones that can make it. They tried to use their size to squeeze their longterm supplier and lost a $28 million judgement because they were objectively wrong as proven in a court of law.

They started their own shortage trying to fuck over farmers when they already had over $150 mil/year in sales and they deserve to die off.

The only meaningful impact we have against these predatory businesses is by voting with our dollars and if you cant give up a fuckin sauce that has hundreds of excellent options available from other companies then you are part of the problem.

Hi everyone, I figured I have struggled with this enough over the past day and its time to consult the community. I've been running this same setup for about a month now with the only major change in that time being implementing the input shaping. Recently (last week) I have been unable to complete any prints because every time, I get the error: Move exceeds maximum extrusion ((in the case) 10.681mm^2 vs 0.640 mm^2).

My research says that it is likely due to a mix up between relative and absolute extrusion mode, however I did not change any of those settings in the past month prior to the start of this issue.

Troubleshooting conducted so far: 1) uncheck relative extrusion distances in printer settings>general RESULT -> same error. 2) re-enable relative extrusion in the slicer and explicitly add an M83 command to START_PRINT macro RESULT -> same error. 3) disable the check altogether and observe the print by adding MAX_EXTRUDE_CROSS_SECTION of 50 into printer.cfg RESULT -> no error, but it is massively overextruding blobs in that spot as expected given the error. Had to cancel print anyways it was so bad.

Edit: T.S. continued: 4) setting pressure advance to 0. RESULT -> same error.

Here is my START_PRINT macro before I started messing with it troubleshooting.

Pressure advance is 0.0425.

I'm not sure if there is more information I would need to share that may help find the cause like perhaps export the profile from the slicer as well?

I'm on PrusaSlicer 2.6.1 appimage on pop_OS using the Ellis 3d Sovol SV06 SuperSlicer profile adapted to PrusaSlicer with some tweaks as I go.

Printer is an SV06 running Klipper on a Raspberry Pi 4 with MainsailOS.

Hey so I’m just getting my quest 2 setup again after sitting for over a year. Needless to say, facebook went and broke everything I had setup in that time so it took awhile to get sidequest running and linked again. Now that it is; what are your all-time favourite free games on sidequest?
