Pricespy used to be great for building lists, tracking component prices and designing new systems, but it seems the website has only got worse over time. Are there any NZ alternatives out there that are worth trying?

The music streaming platforms (admittedly with their own challenges) have to compete based on service offering rather than exclusivity. Imagine if all the streaming platforms competed on quality of service instead of exclusivity.

I’d personally pay a lot more if I could just have one service that had all the content I want, but instead we’re in this situation where the platforms (in my opinion) are lacking innovation and the content is all over the show. Here in NZ I find different seasons on different platforms or plenty of shows that just aren’t licensed for our market. We all know how that problems going to be solved.

I was having this conversation with a friend and we both got some useful ideas from each other (cancelling various underused subscription services, making use of libraries, more home vege gardening etc) - curious to know what else people are trying.

What would be great if the parties in power put these kind of policies in place when they had the opportunity rather than when the are clearly going to lose the election.

I’m trying both Avelon and Memmy as replacements for lemmy, and pretty happy with both so far. My Reddit account was 16+ years old when I dropped it because of Apollo. What a dumb decision.

I had a 16+ year old Reddit account, but was shocked when the whole 3rd party app situation was going down to learn that patently Reddit had ads. Between pihole and browser ad blockers even when I used the web version I never saw them. Don’t think I was missing anything.

My takeaway from looking at these results is that both major parties are a bit shit. I don’t think coalitions on either side will help much either, and people are always too scared of voting for someone different (e.g. TOP) to do anything about it.

I always read stories about what’s going on in Gloriavale, and I quite enjoy videos of random communities abroad as well. Other than Gloriavale what other fringe communities exist in NZ?

When I did my deep diving certification one of the things they got us to do was try and do maths of varying complexity (compared to previously doing it on the surface). I didn’t feel high at all, but most of us had slower response times and more errors at depth, apparently as a side effect of the increased nitrogen. Pretty wild.

Yeah busses are potentially part of the solution, but decent rail connections can be more disruptive (positively) over longer distances e.g Welly - Palmy, Auckland - Hamilton etc.

Having previously lived in China and experiencing the amazing train network there I definitely see the benefits of a solid rail system. Way more efficient than busses too.

Nuts to me that places like Wellington had pretty good electric bus systems with trolley busses but replaced them largely with diesel. Not sure what the bus fleet is like now though.

Also not sure why you are being downvoted for a pretty reasonable discussion.

I’d like to think you were right but look how people and countries are cozying back up to Saudi Arabia now. There is a lot of people who would sell their soul for a little bit of money.

Looks great. I’ve downloaded it and look for to trying it out and seeing how it compares to Memmy.

If that guy could read I think he’d be mightily offended.

I’m genuinely shocked that there are people out there that view ads. Between ublock and pihole depending on location I can barely think of the last ads I saw.

But he said he’s a free speech absolutest! How could this be? /s

If only he’d kept his mouth shut he’d probably be worth another 100billion. He reminds me of all the edge lords on 4chan, except with the unfortunate fact the media keeps reporting the dumb shit be says.
