Our wives must know each other. Me recently: it's not useless junk! It's a CD tower NAS with 10 base t token ring capability! The guy who ran a bbs in my local calling area had one that served up Warez in 1997! I was a very early adopter of mp3. I used the original program released by the fraunhoeffer Institute to rip my friend's metallica bootlegs and upload them for extra leech credits. It would take half a day to encode 128kbps mp3 files on my non-mmx cyrix 6x86, and I could only store 1 CD worth of mp3s at a time on my 800mb hard drive. Besides, I got a really good deal on it!

Yeah, but I bet an alarmingly high proportion of kids exposed to this crap never realize what's going on.

I feel like any appointment is problematic.

Is it like Instagram? I don't get it. I might be too old.

You mean that down arrow isn't an "I don't like this so I don't want to see it" button?

Ah ok. I thought there was something specific about this man or company being evil, like that Massey energy guy is to coal mining.

How do you know that the money I saved on hardware isn't going straight to games that I can stream to it from my desktop over steam link?

I went to DC as part of a school trip in 2000 or so. My AP political science teacher was the son of a prominent Chicago politician. So we got some special tours. I remember shooting a couple baskets on the Supreme Court Justices' private basketball court. And I remember wondering how often any of those old fucks shot hoops in there.

We also got a tour of the senate where we were able to wander around freely on the senate floor. It was pretty damn cool. Strom Thurmond's seat was in the front, and I stole his pencil. It was a regular #2 pencil, but it said united states senate on it instead of a brand. And it was full of chew marks.

I didn't watch this, but i bet technology connections video about blue Christmas lights is more entertaining!

Kde connect is wonderful

That seems like a pretty substantial investment for something you don't have much experience with or a plan for what you'll do with it. I'm not criticizing. I'm actually kind of jealous. Maybe figure out how to host your own lemmy instance!

Chuck Roast Barbacoa (midwest.social)

I wish I could post more than one pic in the mobile app. I took a few along the way.

This came out really tasty. Recipe-

It's on Netflix. I read the description and decided to watch it anyway so I deserve this deeply disturbed and uncomfortable feeling I'm sitting with right now.

Has anyone else seen it?

hot smoked salmon (midwest.social)

I smoked a salmon filet for the first time today. I did a simple brown sugar & salt brine overnight, let it dry out a bit, brushed on some maple syrup and threw it in the electric smoker. I used apple chips at 175 until the internal temp hit 140.

Sorry, I don't have any pics. The wife and daughter ate it all up before I could snap any. I guess that means it was pretty good!

i've never made an awesome brisket. i've made a few ok briskets. this was neither. it was a lesson in humility. i am not skilled enough to take a questionable piece of meat and turn it into amazing bbq.

so please ruminate on this pic and leave your best desert puns below. but then please also leave me a good brisket chili recipe because i need one, badly.

rate my trim (midwest.social)

I don't do a lotnof brisket. It's too expensive! So please critique my trim here. Costco "blade tenderized" this thing, so the fat cap was coming off in tiny little pieces instead of strips.

They didn't really have anything I felt like dealing with. They had some 20 lb pork butts, whole choice packers and tons of pork ribs.

I was getting ready to settle for a couple chuck roasts until I found a random ugly 4 lb section of brisket flat mixed in.

So tomorrow I'll be doing Charlie Brown's brisket flat in the masterbuilt. I'm going to keep it nice and easy. No poking coals or fiddling with vents all day.

I suffer from adhd and major depression, both recently diagnosed and both resistant to treatment.

My toenails have been neglected for too long. They're ingrown and have been causing me pain for about a week.

I'm typing this as I'm laying in bed with my shoes off instead of cutting my toenails. Will I cut them today? Maybe, maybe not.

How about you, especially you fellow executive function disordered midwesterners? When is the last time you cut your toenails?
