Elections?

If Republicans pull the house there will be no elections.

It's not a testament to her abilities, it's a depressing statement about the state of America that a convicted felon, rapist, fascist loudman can be neck and neck with probably one of the smartest, most highly accomplished presidential candidates we've had in quite a while

Every single major retailer with a deli section near me has switched to boar's head within the last 2-3 years... guess they undercut everyone else on bids and got good contracts by violating health and safety laws, the American capitalist way!

So rather than just push a super simple firmware update that disables the always online need, they'd rather just stop selling it, and probably brick these printers in a year or so when they discontinue the service.

Depends very heavily on the cows. Cattle rancher here. Be careful about it and *most cattle are OK to walk among.

Generally speaking, most farm cattle are timid towards people. They may come check you out and encircle you as a herd, but will usually scurry away if you move suddenly, and don't care if you're just in the field with them. They are herbivorous herd/prey animals, after all. The cattle my parents raise, perfectly safe to walk through. Hell the calves will often come up and sniff you out and rub up against you.

Some remote range cattle can be more wild. They might take off running if they see you within a half mile, or they might come running towards you if they deem you a threat.

The real danger often lies with bulls (hanging balls and huge shoulder) or cows with young calves (<1mo old). Both of these can be very unpredictable.
I've interacted with some bulls that were as gentle as can be and some that would rip your skin off if you weren't on the other side of a panel. You should never go into a paddock with an unknown bull, ever.
And even the most timid cow can start squaring up if she has a very young calf still in need of protection.

It's something you mostly have to learn how to read. Cows are expressive. They have body language. They speak with their head and their tails, and they look with their ears. For me it's easy to tell if a cow is safe to approach, but it is a learned skill.

When you approach cows, make noise. Nothing racocious but just talking in a firm tone to them is enough. Make sure the herd olknows your approaching long before you get close enough to be a danger, never suprise a cow. Always keep a distance of minimum 30 feet unless they approach you themselves out of curiosity.

A head and/or tail held very high means they are alert and focused on you, this usually means they are nervous and about to fight-or-flight. Back off slowly and try not to turn away.
If a herd dispersed while grazing begins to bunch up together, that also means they're getting nervous. Just avoid the bunch and walk away from whatever direction they're heading.

A head held low while looking at you, or still grazing means they are relaxed. They dont usually lower their head to "charge" like in the cartoons until they're already moving. You're new to the field so they'll always look at you. Move smoothly and steadily, they won't bother you.

The headline they want you to read: "zomg these master criminals were causing billions in damages!!!!1!1"

The headline everyone else reads: "lmao piracy run by a couple random schmucks has an infinitely better service AND content selection than any corporate streaming service"

It was nice knowing Raspberry Pi while they lasted. Going to suck losing something that has changed the homegrown embedded system hobby forever.

Firefox latest on Android 14, web front-end

Images seem to work fine now after the 19.4 upgrade.
Except when posting images via direct upload. I've tried to post an image with body description a couple times now to another community and as soon as I hit submit, it just instantly removes the image and doesn't post anything, leaving me on the create post page.

Edit: Pretty sure this is a front end bug as I had to hit submit twice to make this post. When you hit submit it jumps to the top of the page first.

Legend: Candidate Name (party, %of vote)

Vote tallies current as of 12:30am PST, May 22nd 2024
(Due to lower voter turnout in primaries, most ballots are already counted by this time and these totals are unlikely to change significantly by the election certification date.)

Please see title link to the official Secretary of State page for complete and accurate election results.

Statewide Positions
Secretary of State: Tobias Read (D, 71%) will run against disgraced state senator (who is barred from running for senate) Dennis Linthicum (R, 65%)

State Treasurer: Elizabeth Steiner (D, 78%) will run against another disgraced state senator who is barred from running, Brian Boquist (R, uncontested)

Attorney General: Dan Rayfield (D, 76%) will run against Will Lathrop (R, 64%)

Other Notable Contested Races:
US Representative, 3rd Dist: Current State Rep Maxine Dexter (D, 50.7%) beats out former Multnomah county commissioner Susheela Jayapal (D, 28.5%)

State Representative, 12th Dist: Darin Harbick (R, 82%) beats out current representative Charlie Conrad (R, 18%) for the republican nomination. No other candidates filed for any other party, so Harbick is the de-facto winner of the position.
Conrad faced this primary challenge by Harbick due to his Yes vote on HB2002 that created legal protections for abortion rights and transgender care. Conrad was publicly censured and disowned by the state Republican Party due to his vote not toeing the party line. Read more here.

Personally Irksome:
State Senate District 28: Diane Linthicum (R, 59%), the wife and co-conspirator of disgraced senator Dennis Linthicum, beats out current Klamath County Commissioner Dave Henslee (R, 41%) for the republican nomination. No other candidates filed for any other party, so Linthicum is the de-facto winner of the position.
Mrs. Linthicum has no real world qualifications to be Senator beyond being the husband of the current disgraced Senator, and has all but openly said she is only running to be the mouth of her husband as to bypass the election restrictions.

Notable core gameplay changes:

  • you can now claim authorship of NPC ships after you hack them so that npc pcu limits are correct (and your ownership is also correct)
  • destroyed cargo containers now have a temporary storage item that drops with everything in it instead of puking out 750 thousand items and creating a lag bomb
  • there is now a communications block that can send chat messages
  • there is now ways to wirelessly send actions between grids, a HUGE advancement to automation

This is shaping up to be a fantastic core update. Looking forward to playing it.

As I'm graduating college in a few weeks, I'll be losing access to my university's free printers and filament. I'm going to build up a home lab with a couple printers where I can make goofy little mechanical projects as well as some components for my cars and stuff.

Who's your go-to for PLA and ABS/ASA filaments? Those will be my primary print jobs in any serious volume. I know our college's club has had hella problems with random chinese brand filaments not printing consistently but I also don't want to spend $30+ per kg for something like Prusament.

If you read through it you can see the single diseased braincell that wrote this prompt slowly wading its way through a septic tank's worth of flawed logic to get what it wanted. It's fucking hilarious.

It started by telling the model to remove bias, because obviously what the braincell believes is the truth and its just the main stream media and big tech suppressing it.

When that didn't get what it wanted, it tried to get the model to explicitly include "controversial" topics, prodding it with more and more prompts to remove "censorship" because obviously the model still knows the truth that the braincell does, and it was just suppressed by George Soros.

Finally, getting incredibly frustrated when the model won't say what the braincell wants it to say (BECAUSE THE MODEL WAS TRAINED ON REAL WORLD FACTUAL DATA), the braincell resorts to just telling the model the bias it actually wants to hear and believe about the TRUTH, like the stolen election and trans people not being people! Doesn't everyone know those are factual truths just being suppressed by Big Gay?

AND THEN,, when the model would still try to provide dirty liberal propaganda by using factual follow-ups from its base model using the words "however", "it is important to note", etc.... the braincell was forced to tell the model to stop giving any kind of extra qualifiers that automatically debunk its desired "truth".

AND THEN, the braincell had to explicitly tell the AI to stop calling the things it believed in those dirty woke slurs like "homophobic" or "racist", because it's obviously the truth and not hate at all!

FINALLY finishing up the prompt, the single dieseased braincell had to tell the GPT-4 model to stop calling itself that, because it's clearly a custom developed super-speshul uncensored AI that took many long hours of work and definitely wasn't just a model ripped off from another company as cheaply as possible.

And then it told the model to discuss IQ so the model could tell the braincell it was very smart and the most stable genius to have ever lived. The end. What a happy ending!

Water and steam just too goddamn convenient. Super high latent heat so it can move a ton of energy with a quick phase change, works at reasonable pressures and temperatures, stays liquid all the time when you want it to so pumps work, and it's so readily available as to be damn near free. Super cool!

Lemmy naturally concentrates unconnected users with similar interests thanks to reddit-style communities. Mastodon follows the Twitter style where you have to find and follow individual users to get their microblog content, and its harder to isolate certain topics or interests except across the entire service via hashtags. Individual users on their own are very uninteresting and bland.
Lemmy has fewer users but they as a whole generate more active content than Mastodon does thanks to community specialization, since the Twitter style posts require some critical mass of users following to generate interesting discussion (something that basically never happens unless you're already a celebrity)
