Militants specifically use these pagers for security and stealth. Everyone else just uses phones.

It's a brilliant way to target only combatants, and also expose them to their friends and neighbours. This attack is incredibly disruptive with very little collateral damage compared to alternatives.

And yes, it's terrorism, an attack meant to inspire terror and disrupt communication networks with a chilling effect much larger than the actual damage. However it's interesting as unlike most terrorism it does not target civilians.

It's also terrifying to think we are living in a world where a malicious component attack is a legitimate concern. This is one of those moments that change the world - I'm sure every industry is thinking about the danger of their foreign supply chain right now.

I find it odd, here on the farm it's always been the biggest, meanest tomcats that flop around on the porch for endless belly rubs. Even my daughter has never been scratched and she'll pet these battle-scarred warriors for hours.

I guess they have nothing to prove?

Or maybe it's just a bad idea to play tourist in countries that are engaged in active war

And it's always been terrible at it. And it still is. Pairing issues, overcompressed audio, dropping connections, overcomplicated protocol without universal support... I have no idea how it didn't get replaced by a competing standard.

Like Wi-Fi, honestly. How is Bluetooth not just "USB over Wi-Fi". Literally. Tunnel USB over a 2.4Ghz link. A transport layer that does transport, and then the endpoints can just... Talk to each other. It doesn't sound hard..

Instead we have a system where my wireless controller works great except with an Intel built-in BT chipset. So when I decided to play some games last night on my new TV and tried it out with my laptop, every 15 minutes or so the controller locks up and spins constantly to the right, and has to be re-paired.

Or where if I play anything with any sort of bass in my truck the compressor flattens the mids so you can't even hear the vocals, so I have to use a physical aux cord instead. Why is there dynamic range compression at all? Why is it not configurable? Why is this not just a raw PCM stream. WHY

We have had this protocol for 25 YEARS and it still works like beta

you can't be a winner without there being losers

There's no biblical reasoning why everyone can't go to heaven, losers are not mandatory. In fact in Christianity, "Jesus died for your sins," so supposedly you get a free pass as long as you aren't a big piece of shit.

It's the Jehovah's witnesses that think there is limited space in heaven, it's what motivates them to convert everyone. By converting so many unbelievers, they'll rise up the ranks and get that heaven spot for themself. The people they converted? Doomed to hell, I suppose. A sacrifice to get them into heaven.

JWs are pretty messed up.

That's not just a German thing, here in Canada or the USA it's strongly frowned on to bring your own food or drink to a restaurant or bar. And "no public toilet" snuck in to a lot of places at Covid time and never left.

Fast food is different and definitely not enforced but it's still poor etiquette to eat anything other than small snacks or water there unless you're part of a group. Like a bunch of guys stop at McDonald's but one guy is like nah, I packed a sandwich, I'm gonna eat that.

Still it's kind of expected that guy would buy a coffee or something. This is what I would do in OP's situation, have a coffee or a diet Coke if you're hanging out there for awhile. I wouldn't complain about "pricy consumables", it's like $2.

It's not just brown here, which is super rare, it's so warm that I can't even take my daughter skating at the outdoor rink.

I live in SASKATCHEWAN

You know what they say, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and carries a swastika flag, it's a Nazi

We have several farm dogs and one of the big white guard dogs is as dumb as a stump. They're never smart dogs, but this one is just special.

My daughter told me last week "I think she's my favourite dog ever". I look over at said dog who is staring vacantly into the sky, tongue hanging out.

"That dog? Really?"

"She's so fluffy!" And she grabbed onto this huge dog and squeezed her. The dog barely moves except to half-heartedly try to lick her.

"I hope she doesn't forget to breathe some day" she says as she pat, pat, pats the dog's empty head, the dog staring adoringly into her eyes... I don't usually like stupid animals but I agree that she's absolutely charming in her stupidity. She's like a big teddy bear and often I'll find my daughter napping on the lawn using her as a pillow.

make a bloody mess of it

Personally I've been advocating for the "shitload of explosives" method. It doesn't get much more humane than being blown to a red mist in milliseconds, and the audience would love it.

Medicalized death sentences like the lethal injection seriously creep me out. Even a murderer deserves to face death with dignity, not strapped to a table and injected with poison.

I use Syncthing to keep my Keepass files synchronized on my devices. All the benefits of cloud storage, but my password file never leaves my control.
