I was a kid when the prequels came out and loved them despite how they were poorly recieved by old fans.

Maybe these people who like the sequels are kids/teens.

Mental illnesses are real. But the construct of “mental illness” isn’t. There is no such thing as an “illness” that is completely psychological in nature, ie. only “caused by thoughts and behaviours”.

What are called mental illnesses belongs into three broad categories instead:

Biological Illnesses

Many “mental” illnesses are genuine biological illnesses that have been shunned from fields such as neurology and stigmatised by calling them mental.

Ie. Schizophrenia (part genetic, several brain changes), Bipolar (genetic, HPA axis dysregulation + structural signs), Major depressive disorders etc. I’d like to remind that many genuine illnesses that dont even affect the brain were called mental illnesses before we fully figured the pathology out. From peptic ulcer to lupus.

difficult living conditions manifesting through changes in behaviour

ie. Some cases of anxiety disorder (maybe its normal to be anxious in the case you’re living, ie. stressful 9-5 with lots of responsibilities), reactive depression (it isn’t a mental illness to be depressed when your spouse dies, its completely normal)

Normal behaviours that society chooses to brand as deviant

ie. Gender dysphoria is not a mental illness, it is NORMAL, Same thing as homosexuality was called a mental illness in the past

It's unbelievable how vocal the minority of conservatives on reddit have suddenly gotten in the one sub where a large demographic of important voters often interact. Hmmm. Coincidence?

Peter Buxtun, the whistleblower who revealed that the U.S. government allowed hundreds of Black men in rural Alabama to go untreated for syphilis in what became known as the Tuskegee study, has died. He was 86.

Buxtun died May 18 of Alzheimer’s disease in Rocklin, California, according to his attorney, Minna Fernan.

Buxtun is revered as a hero to public health scholars and ethicists for his role in bringing to light the most notorious medical research scandal in U.S. history. Documents that Buxtun provided to The Associated Press, and its subsequent investigation and reporting, led to a public outcry that ended the study in 1972.

If you mean “developped” vs “develloping”.

The HDI of the US is significantly lower than canada or northern europe, but still much higher than the world average.

Here’s an Inequality Adjusted version of the Human Development index, the US comes 27th, below Estonia and Cyprus, but 27th out of nearly 200 is counted as “develloped”.

Oh come on you don’t need to downvote me for that. I’m not a professional on a computer, I’m a disabled bedridden person who is unable to use computers. Just let me exist please.

Nor am I a native english speaker :)

Edit: Lmao this guy went and downvoted every single one of my recent comments because of this.

The thing for someone like me who is immunocrompromised is. I need to wear a mask because I have a medical condition.

But also my immediate family and anyone interacting with me needs to wear a mask when in public. Covid is a death sentence for me. So this law doesn’t cover that.

Russia has already kidnapped and killed people inside of Europe. I guess it gets treated like espionage.

ME/CFS has a 5% recovery rate. I am as severe as Diana for a decade for example.

Please don’t say things like that. It insinuates that our lives are not worth living, when that choice is very personal, and having someone else say that can be very heartbreaking when you’re just living the best you can.

Imagine you are ill with something and someone says “you should probably go kill yourself” or “If I were in your shoes I would kill myself”….

Reform 4th biggest party surpassing the SNP. Terrible news for the long term prospects of the country.

Although in the medium term, this labour majority will be a breath of fresh air.

[-] mecfs@lemmy.world 39 points 4 months ago

Oh my god exactly.

I work on a pretty neglected Neuroimmune illness ME/CFS (hence my username) with really low recovery rates whether treated or untreated (~5%).

And the number of “clinical trials” of things like “Graded Exercise Therapy” or “CBT” or “Acupuncture” or [insert random supplement] that claims to “cure” the condition is so large. Except these trials all rely on subjective outcome measures and none are placebo controlled, oh and ofcourse the results never last in long term followup.

In the US, especially in this polarised climate, the vast majority of changes to law start with one state, and then another, and then another until slowly it gets adopted around the country.
