That seems to make the most sense.

It should still be safe on DLsite and Patreon, as apparently it is self-published there and going by KG and ZP's messages, self-publishing shouldn't be a problem.

Something about this decision seems odd as you can self-publish games on Itch.io so this shouldn't have been a factor when they chose to delist their games

Might also just be a strictly business decision

hmm another way of looking at this is that:

You've inserted coins into the vending machine (entered ban descriptions and other inputs) but after pressing the juice button, the vending machine doesn't dispense your drink but it displays "Drink dispensing in progress" (the drink buttons and display works but there's a gap/shortcircuit between the display and the dispensing arm (the dispensing arm being the instance for this situation)

So the problem might be on:

  • the app's side
  • the instance

or it could even be a mix of both (¿Por qué no los dos?), hard to know till someone tests all possibilities

[-] recursive_recursion@lemmy.ca 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

huh that IS odd🤔

Without knowing how the underlying app's systems work:

My guess is that the app might be acknowledging the ban request as a confirmation that the request was sent (button pressed? yes: Display "Ban Confirmed") but wasn't verified/validated that the request was indeed successfully accepted on the instance's side

[-] recursive_recursion@lemmy.ca 2 points 12 hours ago

Before attempting the test I found:

After doing a ban test on a new user account it succeeds (on Programming.dev anyways) although the ban function is currently only available for community-based bans as asked/detailed by SockPls on Github.

I'm currently unsure about the unlisted modlogs error, unfortunately this might be an instance related issue that you might want to test by creating a test user account

Hope this helps a bit though!🤗

I ususally use the web interface to manage moderation but I'll give this a go and make a new comment on this post with my findings🤗

I'm hoping that by sharing this news, Americans might become more willing to contact their representatives in congress to reconsider sending troops to Israel

I can only see the deaths of US troops escalating the needless conflict and bloodshed in this already terrible war

Worst part is that I found out about this because of western media. Maybe the local media did cover it, I should start reading more...

The best thing we can do is cover each other's back by holding each other responsible✊

By calling out (reporting) the attrocities in all nations (instances) it's easier to isolate bad actors and clean up our environment🌻

Please consider helping a friend by helping them migrate off of Chrome and towards something like:

Google's beginning to roll out the deprecation of Manifest V2 extensions which includes ad blockers. Extensions are still manually installable but the process is no longer accessible for non-power users.

In addition to the continued enshitification of Chrome it seems that Google is also kneecapping people's privacy and security:

While this isn't a sale I wanted to share this vid here as the Lancool 217 is currently the top competitor for both thermals and price!

Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP):

  • $80 USD / ~$110 CAD (Before shipping and tax)
(the 110 is an approximate as the import/duty fees will create a price difference)

Just got back from a long but enjoyable day as I've convinced yet another to escape Windows and join Linux

Hopefully they should feel more comfortable with building their own computer and using Linux in general as I went through the entire process with them; from having them insert their new CPU all the way to boot switching between Linux and Windows 10 via ~~BIOS~~ UEFI

They've got a few proprietary requirements remaining (hence the dual boot) but 95% of their apps are now on PopOS (they're planning to switch to Arch in about 3-4 months after some certain conditions are met)

Just wanted to share this as I've missed posting on the fedicomms and also wanted to provide an update for afking🤗

Anyways here's another to Windows's death ~~knell~~ null!🎉

[@BrikoX@lemmy.zip's recent post](https://lemmy.zip/post/22973459) gave me a couple of thoughts that I'd like to share;

Preface

Current Context (as of Sept 18, 2024): AMD's Reprioritization of Data Center Clients Over Laptop OEMs

If AMD were to upgrade the consumer class to server class via their CPU feature-set expansion and partnerships, they'd have a higher likelihood of acquiring new developers to focus and develop AMD's drivers (esp on the Linux side; pending native support for developers) which could create a positive-feedback-loop for both AMD and the Linux community:

  • better Linux support on AMD = higher probability of adding new AMD Linux Devs
    • more AMD Linux devs providing improved Linux desktop experience = more Windows and macOS users jumping ship who would then also help improve AMD Linux desktop exp
      • (while writing, this made me think of SC2's Protoss Katamri Deathball)

With AMD's current decisions I see:

As a knock-on effect users would become more able to start new tech businesses powered by AMD components as self-hosting becomes more accessible via the AMD Linux relationship in addition to NVIDIA's albeit small but increasingly competitive strategies to enter the FOSS competition

  • FOSS startups are in an interesting position as the increase in competition from both AMD and NVIDIA in the Linux space is likely to simutaneously:
    • increase capital expenditures(startup costs) due to expanded mobo and CPU feature-sets (in context to the Linux ecosystem) but
    • also decrease long-term costs due to increasing feasibility for users to self-host their own services thereby reducing cloud-dependant subscription-costs

As a systems analyst the current environment in the tech space really tickles my brain in delightful ways🤔

Please note however:
As I have no certainties about what the path lies ahead in addition to potentially being misinformed; please take everything I've said with a grain of salt in that all of this is speculation and are my thoughts alone (sadly I also have no insider information to provide further supporting evidence)
