Right on. The proof is in the pudding even their games I don't finish, like the gwent one, aren't bad or not fun, I just lost interest

I used this argument with my friend the other day - cyberpunk lets you play as a trans character, . People got upset when they found that out prelaunch... And then no one cared, the main complaint was bugs

It's not "go woke and go broke", it's "no one wants shit media, and inclusivity is not a substitute for quality"

Inclusivity isn't the problem, only bigots care if you make something great that happens to be inclusive. It's observer bias, not correlation - inclusivity is generally good. Gamers don't mind inclusivity, they'll get the experience they want and ignore the options they don't want

The problem is shit writing and gameplay

In fairness, I've had to write a privacy policy due to store restrictions. It boiled down to "everything stays on your phone. I don't collect your data, I don't want your data, I don't even have a backend server that could be collecting your data. If you find my app sending telemetry of any kind, please tell me immediately because that should not be happening"

That being said, this doesn't exactly inspire confidence

I feel like I've been going crazy, web searching as a developer has become a daily nightmare and all the devs I ask are like "yeah, maybe it's gotten a bit worse? Haven't really noticed"

A couple of my friends, a girl and gay guy, once brought me into a hobby of theirs. Several days a week, they sat at the college food court and went boob watching.

That day I learned something truly profound about the human condition. Everyone appreciates boobs - we might wrap them up in sexuality or envy or stranger complexes, but beneath it all there's a universal aesthetic appreciation

I legitimately thought this was satire

Are things really this bad without an ad blocker these days?

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 27 points 10 months ago

Nope. Ask flat out, don't be weird about it. You get one shot before there's any potential harassment, take it... Then accept the result

That's all there is to it

Yeah, it's the lifetime theoretical reward for highly skilled work vs what someone has right now.

You might think "that's just on paper", but cut it by 10 and it's still a nonsensical comparison. The scale is insane

It's a moon base built ASAP. It's build a floating country in the Atlantic the size of Delaware. It's buy a prefab house for everyone in the US who is renting or homeless. It's give everyone in the world a plane ticket to anywhere they want, round trip. It's build a maglev train network across a continent. It's wake up every day, go anywhere, and buy a new house at such an insane price the existing owner would agree to leave within the hour. It's build something the scale of the Washington monument at every rest stop across the US

These aren't things that would use up the wealth, these are things individuals could do, then go on to live the most extravagant possible life. Sure, a lot of these things would require careful planning and take decades if you actually wanted to do them, but that's the scale we're looking at - it's choose an issue and affect global change kind of money.

Yeah, wealth, income, and lifetime projected income are all very different things, it's apples and oranges. Except it's more like a single apple against every orange ever eaten - the sheer difference in scale makes any comparison meaningless. Simply spending their wealth, in any way, would drastically change the lives of countless people for the better

Rewatching this once again a few months back, I changed my mind on this

Forest is really weird about sex. I used to think it was because his mom was always bringing men over and his nerodivergence, but his reaction to it is a trauma response - he dissociates whenever people make a move on him.

There's a lot of hints that Jenny was sexually abused by her step dad, but in the beginning forests intro about him can be interpreted as him having done something to forest as well

In that context, think about their first kiss in her dorm - he gets weird and she freaks out. I assumed it was because she felt he wasn't able to consent, but maybe she freaked out because she realized she was triggering a trauma response and felt sick to her stomach

Then when they have sex, it's forced and uncomfortable for both of them. "I'll show you what love is" He did it just to fulfill her needs so she'd stay - but obviously that's not something she's ok with

In that context, it's not that Jenny doesn't love him, it's that he would be hurt to be sexual with her, and if she's around he'd be hurt if she was with others

Um... It's literally happening right now. They told our grandparents "it'll be your grandchildren who will really suffer"

We're the grandchildren. Food and water shortages, people dying from the heat, floods, pandemics. All of it is happening in first world countries. The US, Europe, China... Last year, this year, next year

We're past the "slowly gets worse" phase. We fucked around for that. We're starting the "find out" phase

They want everything to run in TEE on the TPM, which has device specific keys signed by the manufacturer and can't be accessed through normal means

Best case scenario is someone learns to spoof it, but that's not easy. Possible, but unlikely to be packaged for personal use, since it'd be the kind of exploit you could sell to the right group for a 6 or 7 figure payout - and that's doing it officially and above board. Plus, if you did share it, you'd want to keep your identity hidden, the manufacturer would probably try to silence you with legal action

Hopefully, the EU challenges them if they try to move forward, someone brought up a law on the books in Germany that makes it illegal to use an automated system to make the decision to deny someone access to a system

I'm about to launch a Lemmy app (by Monday, my friend yelled at me when he found out I'd been using it exclusively for weeks without putting up a beta), and kbin support is on my to-do list.

Frankly, I started using Lemmy, saw this could be the thing I've been waiting for, and decided the edges were too rough. So I made the app I always wanted for Reddit with the goal of using multiple servers, multiple accounts seamlessly. My guiding philosophy is making the client into another layer of federation,

I checked out the kbin docs and I can probably knock it out in a couple days, I've got abstraction layers to handle different versions and forks of Lemmy... Head over to !flemmy@lemmy.world and let me know this is something people want and I'll put it higher on the priority list

Nah, they weren't rioting for nothing - they were rioting because a line was crossed.

If they let the PM push things through in that way, the battlelines will just be around a more important issue, and they'll be in a much weaker position
