A hovering blobb of liquid, equidistant from each wall, most likely.
If you look good, they all work.
If you don't, they don't.
Seriously, the free tier in every app allows for enough opportunities to match with someone. Whether that happens is really a matter of your looks (or well, the photos you're using).
It's a shallow world out there.
It says not to leave "subjective bad reviews". As in, objectively bad is fine.
That's the norm in most urban centers in Europe. Houses are older than elevators, there's no space for a refit, and rebuilding them from scratch is often not feasible due to the time and cost involved.
I didn't particularly mind it though. Been living anywhere from 2nd to 5th floor without one, and it's perfectly fine.
We also don't buy truckloads of groceries as it works in the US apparently, but pick up stuff we need for the evening or next day on the way back from work, and that's that. I hardly ever broke a sweat from shopping.
I'm in China and have to use that piece of crap. So here's how I locked it down:
- Root your phone with Magisk. There's no way around it.
- Install Storage Isolation (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=moe.shizuku.redirectstorage) and deny access to all folders.
- Install ApOps (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rikka.appops) and set pretty much everything to deny or ignore (ignore means the app receives the information "permission granted", but no data is provided, in case some permissions are "mandatory"). If you intend to use wechat to exchange voice messages or make video calls/send photos, the "use microphone" and "use camera" functions would be required. In a similar fashion the location access if you intend to use the location sharing feature.
- Be acutely aware that wechat is not encrypting messages, neither end to end nor in the server communicaton. Everything you say can (and probably will) be read and archived. Don't say anything confidential or critical there.
And yeah really, try to convince your ~~wife~~ girlfriend to use signal instead. Or hell, even whatsapp is miles ahead.
My wife is Chinese as well, so even after we leave here she'll be using wechat to stay in touch with family, no way around it, but using messengers more commonplace in other countries is definitely better. Personally I will move wechat to another phone once we're out. For now that's not feasible as it's too much integrated into every function of life here.
Magisk plus DenyList luckily works for my banks. Couldn't imagine not having a rooted phone.
I live in China, and this is common practice. Most companies here will fire people without notice (4 weeks is the legal minimum) or compensation (one month salary per year left on your contract, minimum 1 month, maximum 6 months).
Filing a labor dispute is trivially easy though, and will be sorted within 14 days. Most workers however are afraid of repercussions, since usually company execs are well connected, and reference checks would reveal that someone is a "noisemaker". Also, most actual shop-floor workers have zero knowledge about the legal system and give up before even evaluating options.
The only things I need are uBlock origin and consent-o-matic.
And then there is "TWP - translate web pages" as long as the native translation function doesn't cover any Asian languages.
Been using all three since forever, with custom collections on Fennec (Firefox-fork) you could already install add-ons for a long time.
"Froot loops were once part of a balanced breakfast"
Ummm... No. No, they never were.
Not at all. Of course their operating system has to be booted from some kind of solid state disk, but all actual operations are carried out in the RAM, meaning that nothing is ever written to the disk. Since the RAM is periodically overwritten and doesn't hold any data in case of a reboot or power failure, they are de-facto not logging a single thing.
God I hate shorts. Luckily you can disable them. But youtube is so riddled with ads in general, it makes watching without adblock impossible. If they'd go back to one 3 second ad at the very beginning, I might even tolerate it. But the current shitshow? Not on my system.
Doesn't help that they have a whooping 113 trackers running simultaneously.
I'm assuming you're vegan?
If what you're looking for is a quick vegan dish, here's something I learnt in Japan - baked avocado.
Open a ripe avocado lengthwise and remove the seed. Take a sharp knife and cut a grid-like pattern into the avocado, going as deep as possible (careful not to puncture the skin!).
Now, pour some soy sauce of your liking (ideally not a thickened one, and with a moderate saltiness level) into the cavity. You don't want to fill it completely, that would be overpowering. Maybe about 1/3 of the depth, just enough to allow it to seep into every crevice when baking.
For the baking process itself, crumble up some tinfoil to make a stand for the avocado halves, you want them to remain as level as possible. Bake them on 350F / 175C for about 20-25 min, you want them to be soft but not burned.
Once done, decorate with sesame seeds and either spoon them out directly (that's the Japanese way) or spread on a toasted sourdough bread, sprinkle some smoked paprika and chopped chives & coriander over it, and enjoy.
Vegetarian option: Crack an egg into the cavity (on top of the soy sauce) 5 min into the bake. You want about 15 min left for solid eggwhites with a still semi-runny yolk. Mix it up and spread on bread.
Omnivore option: Fry some bacon beyond crispy, crumble it up completely, and drizzle the bacon bits on top.
