So, I was thinking about this, and I realized that Kiwix might actually be one of the best apps for looking at information privately, for the following reasons:

  • Completely off the grid, so no tracking, no cookies, no spying by your ISP or people who might be monitoring your internet activity.
  • No browsing history.
  • You can bring your content anywhere.
  • No censorship.

Yeah, most of the official zim contents for Kiwix are inoffensive and is mostly general information, but imagine if you live in a country with heavy censorship and you want to inform yourself about topics that the people in power don't want you to look out, or imagine if you live in a community run by a cult and they control what you look at on the internet. Well, Kiwix is not on the internet, and at any moment you can hide or delete the kiwix content and there is no trace that you were looking at forbidden knowledge that the cult don't want you to know about.

I don't see people talking about these advantages, and I think it would be nice to point them out. What do you think?

The title is shit and confusing, so let me explain.

I'm a white latin american who lives in a latin american country, so in my environment there is very few asian people, in fact, in my region there is so few asians that if there is one in a friend group, they will automatically be "El chino" or "La china".

Anyway, I understand there is a phenomenon that when ur not used to hang out with people from other races, you might see people from other specific race as "they look the same". This is part of the reason why so many people in this part of the world thinks that "asians look the same" when that is absolutely not true. It might also happen that some asians also think all white people look the same. And yeah, in a limited genetic pool, many people will look similar.

Anyway, I like asian media and I consume Jpop, Kpop, and I'm starting to try and get into watching more dramas. The thing is when I face the "they look similar" barrier so I have a hard time differentiating people.

I can identify well for example the Black Pink girls, GIDLE girls, Mamamoo, half of the BTS members, etc, just to give you an idea, but sometimes I'm stuck playing a game of "Oh, this is X? No, I think that's actually Y, nah, I'm wrong, really is Z".

Is kinda stressful sometimes, not being able to differentiate people in dramas or groups and trying to hang on certain identifiable features to do not get me lost.

Is there a way to kinda "train" myself into identifying Asian people and differentiating them better?

I hope this post doesn't sound racist, is not my intention at all. I'm just looking for some advice. Thanks.

Yeah but in a comedic tone. The joke is like:

  • Straight guy she barely knows calls her removed. Gets slapped.
  • Gay best friend calls her removed. They laugh together.

Anyway it 100% sucks, but I think the missing piece is that having an inside joke with someone you trust makes the situation entirely different. While the other guy is being a dick and insulting her out of the blue. So the sketch really misses the mark on that one.

Anyway I never called any of my female friends removed. Ever. Like, why?

To be clear, im queer and im in a relationship with a gay cis man.

Some days ago we were watching a sketch on YouTube about the gay best friend stereotype, where the joke was basically "I can be misogynistic and can walk into female dressing rooms because im gay". I was trying to gather my thoughts to write a piece about it, personally I have no problem being the "gay friend" to my female friends, but there are a lot of stupid and harmful misconceptions about it. I would like to hear some of your opinions about it.

I've had this question looking at the Quake con sale, and Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth is for sale on both platforms. I ended up buying it on GOG. What is your opinion?

As a Casey Neistat fan, I love that he used to put The Godfather 1 and 2 on loop as screensavers for his monitors.

Yeah, he was using an old mac for that.

I would like to replicate it on KDE Plasma. Someone knows a way to put any movie of my liking as screensaver?

Hello, so I'm using Garuda, is a bit customized but the desktop layout is still the same. I have Firefox, and as you can see, the window buttons appear on firefox itself, but I have on the top panel a widget for the buttons, so what happens is that when I have Firefox Opened, 2 rows of window buttons appear.

But I was trying out Mullvad Browser, which is based on Firefox, and the Windows Buttons appear only on the top panel, so is possible to do it.

I wonder what I have to do to have it this way on regular firefox.

Gotta be honest, watching the titles of the posts getting deleted made me a bit nostalgic, because it was an almost 5yo account.

However, now that's old news, and my account is totally gone.

I won't miss it really, I like Lemmy a lot more.

I still use a mask daily. I actually like it. Also going without a mask in public in terrible. Car smoke, death animal smell, piss smell, random people coughing, etc. A mask prevents me of smelling all of that in a pretty effective way.

Also dont have to force smile wearing a mask.

I dont have an answer on how this happens but it is also frustrating to me. Russian government is straight up fascist and yet you see people coping hard justifying their actions.

Maybe they are unaware that Mao and Lennin are dead and their current leaders are a whole galaxy away from continuing their legacy. (I dont even justify Mao since he was a cruel strongman who killed way too many innocent people once in power).
