(Repost with author change)

In the last weeks several databases and websites emerged around the idea of buying European, or local.

Coming from different communities overviews of products and services can (for example) be found at the following websites:

If you are using Firefox or Chrome you can be nudged to do better by using the opensource Go-European-Plugin:

Actually I don't need it for my phone, but I need USB charger with 10W output (5V,2A). And I would like it not to cost too much, because I need more than one, but if its guaranteed made in Europe... Or any asian made that is not China? I know this is BuyEuropean, but if there is no option, my second rule is no China/US. Thank you

AFAIK, currently all debit cards are US-based. Mastercard - US based, VISA - US based. We used to have girocard in Germany, but it's being phased out by most banks in favor of one of the US solutions. There used to be the EC system but as I understand it, it's gone for a while now.

Do we currently have any card-based European payment solutions? How much money do we actually give to the US just for the luxury of being able to pay by card?

I withdraw all my money out of USA stock market and invested in Eurostoxx 600. Half a million Dollars out of this yet unpredictable mess. No Warren, this time i will bet against USA, there is plenty of alternatives in Europe. Who will follow my way and post his effort made ? Please.

I was getting disappointed with the quality of Converse boots before this whole thing kicked off. My partner suggested I try the French brand Paladium. The quality is much better. Apparently, the French paras use them. All I can say is they are more comfortable and last longer than my Converse ever did.

From the Article:

“If you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again,” Vance replied. Hegseth agreed that “I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC.” But, he added, “we are the only ones on the planet (on our side of the ledger) who can do this.”

Miller, the Trump confidant, effectively ended the conversation by saying that the president had been clear. “Green light, but we soon make clear to Egypt and Europe what we expect in return.”

Edit: The texts are released to public

I have a genuine question about this movement. Small businesses and startups aren’t the problem. Why “buy from EU” instead of “stop buying from big corporations” regardless of their countries? Small businesses (from anywhere) cannot absorb the rising costs and tariffs, and they are struggling.

I asked on Mastodon a few minutes ago if Alternativeto.net was going to add any country fields or badges in order to make it easier for users like us to choose and already got this answer! Feel free to go boost favorite/boost their answer here.

Finally closed an episode which started cool & nice, accompanied me half of my life, took me to many different countries, but went toxic over the years. Still bit sad.

The gaming industry is huge and nearly all the big guys are from the US (Epic, Valve, EA, etc).

From EU, there is Ubisoft (Assassins Creed), CD Projekt Red (Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher) and Embracer (Kingdom Come).

Nintendo is non-US at least.

Mwmbl is a community-built, non-profit search engine that puts privacy and user control first. It offers a truly different search experience—one where the results are shaped not by corporate interests but by real people.

Key Features:

  • Ad-Free & Privacy-Respecting: No ads, no tracking, and no commercial interests—just a search engine built with the users in mind.

  • User-Curated Results: Instead of relying on algorithms, search results are refined and tuned by the community.

  • Community-Driven Crawling: The engine relies on volunteer-run crawlers. Although the index currently holds around 500 million unique URLs, there's massive potential.

  • Ambitious Growth Goals: mwmbl plans to reach 10 billion unique URLs by the end of 2025 and 100 billion by 2026, at which point it should be a true alternative to commercial search engines.

  • Open-Source: The project is fully open-source, meaning you can contribute to the code and help resolve issues to push the project forward.

How to Get Involved:

Right now, the search quality is pretty rough, but that’s where you can make an impact:

  • Contribute to the Index:

    • Install the Firefox Extension: Once installed, it crawls the web on your behalf.

    • Run the CLI Script: An even better option would be to use your spare computing power by running the command line crawler.

  • Join the Community: The main community is on Matrix for non-development related discussions.

  • Code Contributions: Check out the project on Codeberg. You can contribute code, report issues, or suggest new features to help make the search results better.

  • Financial Contributions: Donate some money towards hosting costs and supporting volunteers.

In the unlikely event that you can not find a European alternative, you may have to consider buying a US branded product. On this website you can look up the brand and see its politics.

"Corporations earn profits off of your everyday purchases. And some of those profits are then donated to politicians and causes you might not agree with." https://www.goodsuniteus.com/
