Part of me wonders if his goal is actually to manipulate share prices. With Elon in his team, it might actually be what's going on in some level. If he announces e.g tariffs the stock market goes down. His buddies buy shares, then he pauses the tariffs and the stock market goes up. It's not by huge amounts, but it is a reasonably predictable outcome....

The reason I mention Elon is because he tried to do this to twitter to make a profit until he was forced to follow through and buy it.

I don't think Elon planned to lose a third of his net worth in 2 months.

Also I think most of the reductions in share values occurred after he paused the tariffs for another month?

I'm not saying it worked, it's pretty clear they aren't as smart as they think they are.

They can make money when the market goes down as well by buying Put options, selling Call options, and by shorting stocks. I suspect they're doing that because it's harder to make market go up
