This guy is the president. THIS GUY.......IS THE PRESIDENT!!!!

I'm not sure I can make an absurdist joke. What am I going to say that's more absurd than reality??? I am BAFFLED that The Onion still has the ability to exist quite frankly.

There should be a competency exam for the presidency.

It should be the US citizen exam.

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

there should be an age cap.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Hell I think there ought to be capital punishment for corporations

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

US citizen exam

But we send everyone failing our tests to you!

And taking it should be televised instead of the weak ass debates we get now, so that you know there was no cheating

It sounds like basic stock market manipulation. Look for the freaks selling and buying the roller coaster and it will lead back to Trump's gang.

Can someone help me understand what's going on with the tariffs?

Twice now he's announced them then delayed them.

The first time he purportedly held off because he got what he wanted with border controls, but if I understand correctly he doesn't actually really care about fentanyl from canada, so if that's just the bullshit reason he gave for the tariffs then why would he be interested in holding off if the bullshit reason was half-ass addressed?

Then why did he pause again the second time?

I'm aware that the imposition of the tariffs would be catastrophic for a bunch of US businesses and industries, but everyone has known that all along. It's not as though he shied away at the last minute because it wasn't looking good. It never looked good. If that is what happened then why say you'll have another go in a month?

Honestly I'm just lost. My best explanation is that he likes how he's dominating international headlines. He's aware that actually implementing tariffs might be regrettable, but when he says he's going to it really antagonises his political counterparts. Like he wakes up every day and thinks "what can I say to rile up that trudeau shit bird today?"

Actually pretty much that. I think his idea, or the ideas of the Wormtongues in his ear, is to cause so much uncertainty that it causes an economic panic in Canada, and to leverage that economic panic or even crash as a negotiating tool for annexation or colonization.

Mafia diplomacy in action. "Wow, it looks like you're having a hard time of it. We can cut you in on our deals, get you outta the hole, but you gotta give us control of your rackets first" - except I'm positive we'll simply leave Canada hanging on that first part, just like we tried to do with Ukraine.

causes an economic panic in Canada, and to leverage that economic panic or even crash as a negotiating tool for annexation or colonization.

Which is a stupid plan, since Canada has the rest of the world to keep them afloat while they try to hold us under the bath water for electing Krasnov

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah ok, that's a good explanation. That's what Trudeau said too.

It seems more like to generate animosity from Canada than a willingness to be annexed.

I think this whole caper has given Canada's progressive party a bump though? So that's nice.

Part of me wonders if his goal is actually to manipulate share prices. With Elon in his team, it might actually be what's going on in some level. If he announces e.g tariffs the stock market goes down. His buddies buy shares, then he pauses the tariffs and the stock market goes up. It's not by huge amounts, but it is a reasonably predictable outcome....

The reason I mention Elon is because he tried to do this to twitter to make a profit until he was forced to follow through and buy it.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think Elon planned to lose a third of his net worth in 2 months.

Also I think most of the reductions in share values occurred after he paused the tariffs for another month?

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I'm not saying it worked, it's pretty clear they aren't as smart as they think they are.

[–] Screamium@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They can make money when the market goes down as well by buying Put options, selling Call options, and by shorting stocks. I suspect they're doing that because it's harder to make market go up

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

If the oligarchs are not getting pissed off at him with dwindling stock market then I don't what will.

But realise we are barking at the wrong tree. The real persons in charge are Musk and Putin. Musk is an accelerationist who wants to speed up the collapse of society. Putin, well, he's being Putin and the sooner that Trump could make Ukraine accept a peace deal favourable to Moscow, the better.

Remember when MAGA used to say Trump was playing 4D chess.

Nope. Just a fucking idiot doing idiot things like an idiot would.

The most clueless fucking idiot around. It would be funny if he also wasn't evil.

[–] PointyReality@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

That 4D chess theory is also the reason those people believe in conspiracy theories. They cannot fathom occam’s razor and must apply the most illogical concept in order to shape the narrative to better fit their feelings and therefore worldviews rather accepting the simplest and therefore the most likely true reason behind things.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

hes figuring out what he can get away with. he does it consistently. i tought this was common knowledge at this point.

[–] segabased@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They want a crash to set up an economic reset to coincide with their government reset / dissolution. Do they want to set up corpo towns? Lower the value of everything and buy it up? Replace currency with crypto?

Could be all of the above, and I think they think they're real clever about it but kinda just winging it and seeing where it takes them and doing it in the dumbest ways possible.

[–] Getmeoffthisride1969@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

Oh he's doing the great reset? I thought that was all the EU leaders and the WEF. Not this administration. Maybe I should have taken my head out of my ass

post this on 4chan /b/ and all the trolls will come out to defend their infallible king

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I haven't been on there in ages. Has /b/ gone full to the right? If so, are they trolling?

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

hard to say. i think lefties and nazis are bashing their heads in over egg prices on there. a lot of the arguments seem to be baseless trolling tho. they also have a dedicated politics board, /pol/ (politically incorrect). so the ppl on /b/ are the extremist rejects, who are even too bad for this

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

IIRC, /b/ started as a fuck around trolling shitposting board. I wouldn't take anything there too seriously.

I don't think he ever unfroze funds because it was "unpopular". Pretty sure that it was court orders.

Same with some of the firings. A judge overruled it and order them to be reinstated (whether or not they will actually obey court orders is another story)

[–] EndofLife@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

My patriotism was pretty low but now I'm not sure I have any.

Patriotism would be defending the country against all enemies foreign and domestic.

👀

trump is the traitor, the anti-trump Americans are the patriots.

Its time to use all available amendments, to get rid of domestic terrorists.

If the first doesn't work, use the second.
