The ~~pessimist~~ optimist in me assumes it is a viral marketing campaign for low budget horror.
IMO that's an optimistic take.
I was thinking of dismissing it being a negative take, but you are right that in this case that is more of a positive.
I can virtually guarantee you that is not the case. Lemmy is not a big enough platform yet to make that worthwhile.
Is it big enough to be a platform for distribution of unsolicited snuff footage with months of buildup?
Spammers don't usually get dedicated discussions, so odds are it is someone who really understands this kind of social media knowing what would spark discussion. The odds of that person distributing material that could be traced back to them seems pretty remote.
It could also be trolling instead of a movie. Odds of it being real are virtually nil.
What's the definition of it being "real" in this case? A real dead body? It definitely looks to be that. The question is rather whether it is the same person as the Nicole spam images.
