apparently his republican dad saw the circulating photos and asked his son to turn himself in. I doubt it had anything to do with the $100k reward

I like to think if I shot a right wing extremist troll, my dad would help me lay low instead of turning me in. But my dad is an aging hippy, not a maga hat worm brain.

never underestimate republican selfishness and hypocrisy.

Id tell my son to get the fuck out of the country as soon as possible. Then call me from wherever he ends up.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

It'd probably be better for them not to call. If you're trying to hide, don't give them information on where you are.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago

If I did that, my brother would snitch on me so quick.

Then our whole family ends up in gitmo (we're not white), but hey, congrats on being a douchbag, big bro. Now we can all suffer together.

I would think the dad doesn't really give a toss about politics and just didn't want to turn on the news and see his son to die in a police shootout.

If recent events are anything to go by, the dad ain't ever getting that 100k.

[–] mere@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Holy shit that's fucked up. Man basically just killed his own child (or encouraged his child to kill himself) in exchange for $100k.

We all know the story of Abraham....

[–] someacnt@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago

Quite common tbh, are there that many caring parents anymore

[–] OnlineWizard@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

So he's dad basically just sent him to die... I am almost certain they will be looking for death penalty and best case scenario it's a life imprisonment. That seems like a great dad :D

The father then called a youth pastor, who is also a U.S. Marshals task force officer. The officer advised the father to have Robinson stay in place. This information was then conveyed to the FBI.

Priests are mandated report crimes outside of confession.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@feddit.nl 11 points 1 day ago

just so its clear, the father and the "priest" were not the same person.

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So what? Priests and pastors are different things.

[–] presbypenguin@reddthat.com 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm also guessing "pastor" doesn't mean "seminary trained, regular background checks, psychologically evaluated, tested for competence, and examined by others to discern call in a denomination that requires pastors act like mandatory reporters" but instead means "Bubba says the Bible good and hates the right folks."

This is Utah, are they not Mormons?

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

In Mormonism, all adult men have the priesthood.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah this is America, protestants rarely bother with such frivolous "qualifications" here
