My shitty memory is probably somewhat attributable to object permanence related issues with ADHD. If something is out of sight, it can cease to exist for me.
I have tried this, and wound up with random presents just hidden around my house.
personally I just dont do these events.
that doesnt mean no gifts, but they usually come in the form of „hey I saw X and thought you might like it, have fun“
or „that thing Im leaning you? its yours, keep it“
