Turns out the Netherlands neighbour didn’t want to be embarrassed so it extended the same good quality road 100km into its own border. Then OP took a picture of where it ended for this meme

Seems surprising to lie about this on a small community like Lemmy. Maybe it's an urban myth that keep being spread.
I made it up because I thought it would be funny
Because it’s funny. The thought of going to all that trouble to not be one upped by your richer neighbour and then for someone to undo it all by taking a picture where they stopped is amusing. No matter how far they built the road someone could take the picture where it stopped and call them shit
