micromobility - Ebikes, scooters, longboards: Whatever floats your goat, this is micromobility
Ebikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, longboards, eboards, motorcycles, skates, unicycles: Whatever floats your goat, this is all things micromobility!
"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.
micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:
Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.
Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.
Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
I think saying things like "just can't compete" is clickbait and not a very realistic perspective on the situation.
Electric motorcycles have advantages and disadvantages when compared to gas motorcycles. There are tradeoffs with either choice. Yes, electrics are cooler but you give up significant range. Electric are quiet but some want loud pipes to save their lives. And so on.
Framing the debate as in this headline encourages extremes and absolutes and screaming matches which I do not find helpful.
Loud "to save lives" 🤣🤣🤣😉😉😉
If you think you need to be loud to be safe, just switch your horn to "on".
Oh, you wouldn't do that? Why wouldn't you do that?
100% agree. Soundproofing in modern cars is incredible now. I drive a 12.L basic shitbox and I can't hear these fucking babies until they're right beside me. Borrowed a Cayenne the other week and they're basically inaudible
Loud pipes annoy pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers don't notice
Fuckin infants
Start looking then. It's much better than just relying on sound.
The vast, vast majority of drivers where I am are fully aware of motorcycles and other road users
Don't assume every driver is the same the world over
What makes you think your region is somehow better at that than the other regions? The reality is that you'll find careless people everywhere. And there is a difference between "very loud chopper shaking windows" which is a dick move, and "motocycle with a regular engine that you can hear". Electric motorcycles are 100% silent, you only hear the tires. It's basicaly like encountering a bike on the road. There absolutely needs to be some feedback for people to know about them, especially when they're overtaking in traffic etc.
Even the horn doesnt help sometimes.
When the other (car-) driver is in the zone / ignorant he wont see or here you.
Drive like a ghost.
Excellent points. I like my bikes quiet so I can go fast and not attract attention, treat other road users as deaf and blind and help yourself stay alive!
Unfortunately for riders, louder bikes have a negligible effect on driver awareness

Not to mention, batteries perform poorly in the winter.
When it's cold enough to affect batteries riding sucks anywho...
Well, it's not a tipping point but a gradient. And batteries are affected more on a motorcycle simply because there's no cabin to hide them in.
Really depends on a rider, really. Past few winters, I didn't stop riding at all save when it was raining or snowing, which was a few weeks total.
It doesn't get cold enough where I dwell to prevent year round riding. After this thread I went shopping and they don’t fit my lifestyle as I’m am adventure rider (completed the Iron Butt 1000 for an idea of what I’m referring to). I like the idea but I’d have to be not a poor to be able to have an extraneous vehicle. As it stands I commute on an electric scooter and I’d rather suicide than have to travel farther than it will get me to my job. I expect in a decade or so they’ll be more feasible and illegal in Florida😉.
