World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

For Firefox users, there is media bias / propaganda / fact check plugin.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/media-bias-fact-check/
- Consider including the article’s mediabiasfactcheck.com/ link
Yeah imma need to see the words in the speech surrounding that sentence before I can draw any conclusions. That could be taken wildly out of context for all we're presented with here.
Even in a worst case scenario, why now and not last year?
ok, here's the context. (click here)
the source of this file, regrettably, is the daily mail. broken clocks and all that. i will link the "article" that the video file was from, but you will need a hazmat suit going in, for both the cookies/trackers and low quality writing
here's that source now. (click here)
for posters below saying they couldn't find this, i understand it. we all get different search results, it's possible you all got hugboxed and were unable to find the clip as a result
also, i don't care to discuss the topic, i only wanted to link the source, because you were all struggling with it. i like finding sources :)
have a nice day 🥰
They've been in the news quite a few times, the quoted portion mentioned being the most infamous event so far. And governments like the UK generally don't do things that could be very easily defeated in a civil court.
Lemmy's extreme-left news posts are often as bad at telling the truth as Reddit's extreme-right ones. Propaganda comes in all flavours, so if something doesn't make sense, it probably is hiding some truth.
Source for the context that's missing here?
I don't agree with that at all. The Tories have been running roughshod over precedent left and right and spinning up all sorts of legal battles
I don't get how you're relating this to this news story
Can you please Google these questions for yourself? It seems a lot to ask of others, and on yourself to type up such a lengthy comment when you could just paste their name into a search engine and hit Enter.
I googled it and found nothing. Can you provide a source for your claim? I’m not saying you are wrong but you claim it’s super easy to find, and it’s not.
Really? I see pages of articles directly about her, things related to her, and even petitions for and against her.
That's a shame. Maybe better luck next time.
So she expressed an ugly emotion. Is the UK going after people who celebrate Israel's war crimes against the Palestinians? A US politician called for Gaza to be nuked. It's reprehensible, but free speech gives him the right to say stupid and even evil things with out fear of government persecution. There is a mutual hatred between many Israelis and Palestinians, but the hammer only comes down when Palestinians give voice to that hatred. Israelis and their partisans say whatever they want without consequence. And good. Free speech. But get rid of the double standard.
Free speech is not without limits in the U.K.
I think someone supporting terrorist atrocities is lucky to get away with just losing a visa.
Don't be silly, nobody is taking away UK government officials' visas.
I see what you did there, good one. But I meant these ones, these acts she’s celebrating: https://thisishamas.com
And they are rightfully designated a terrorist organisation in the U.K.
Except if you advocate for literal Genocide that's fine of course. In fact you can give weapons to the people committing Genocide.
You can walk around with Genocidal I <3 israel banners proudly advocating for Nazism.
Only the people resisting cannot be advocated for.
There’s no genocide
Important context. Good riddance
That's a fairly standard response from the home office when they don't want to do something.
It's amazing they can tell it's against the public interest, because a cursory glance at the polling numbers would seem to suggest the opposite. They must be very smart.
