I feel proud of being here for a year and feels like I have better mental health due to the better quality of the conversations I have been in.

[-] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

can we just not call it cake day? anniversaries are obviously special but there are quite a few terms we could use, and we could obviously mint one of our own

[-] Eczpurt@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago

Any thoughts on Lemmiversary/Lemmyversary?

[-] pelletbucket@lemm.ee 38 points 2 months ago
[-] chowdertailz@lemmy.world 34 points 2 months ago

And we can throw a party! We'll call it Lemon Party Day!

[-] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago
[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 7 points 2 months ago

Can't have a lemon party without ol' Dick!

[-] pelletbucket@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

I like the sound of it but a party isn't really a name for a day

[-] morphballganon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

With blue waffles!

[-] Kaboom@reddthat.com 0 points 2 months ago

Absolutely perfect name!!

[-] moonlight@fedia.io 15 points 2 months ago

Not everyone's using Lemmy, how about Fediversary?

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

The term fediversary is somewhat established already! And one of the OGs recently celebrated his 16th - the Fediverse is old enough to drink in some countries!

Personally I've been on Mastodon since March 2020 - still a toddler. My first post to Lemmy was in December 2022 from that account, but I'm yet to use Lemmy itself. :)

[-] Eczpurt@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Definitely more inclusive, I dig it.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago

Oh yes. Big deal. Yes yes. All of Lemmy userbase will show up at your house. Each giving you a different cake. Everyone will eat cake, and we'll all be very crammed into your house.

We notice you haven't been joining us for showing up at other Lemmy users houses with a cake......so maybe no Lemmy users will show up on your cake day. Maybe they're still upset you didn't get them a cake. Our entire economy now relies on cake sales, and cake baking accessories. Personally I enjoy strawberry shortcake, which IS a cake. It's right there in the name. But lots of people choose chocolate, or red velvet. Some people get fancy with it. They'll bring several layer wedding cakes, or cakes in the shape of a cartoon character.

One guy brings fondant topped cakes.......nobody likes him.

[The pie is the truth)

[-] Pika@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Completely unrelated, I baked a fondant topped cake as part of my senior project in high school years back, it was the first and last time I ever dealt with fondant, it's the most annoying thing to work with with a cake and it tastes so bad, it looks good but dang does it ruin any cake

[-] otter@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 months ago

It can be :)

If you want to write up a short thing about your feelings being here, I feel like people would read it!

[-] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I did. See above. 🤣

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

I agree with this!

I don't think it should be too much of a point of conversation in it's own right - there are too many users for that to make any sense - but it's a wonderful occasion to reflect on the platform, how we shape it, how it shapes us, and how it has developed since we got here.

And I love reading people's experiences with that.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I found it kinda annoying on Reddit and pretty much same feelings here

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago

If you bring in snacks for everyone I'd be happy to attend the celebration and sing your praises!

[-] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Add a BBQ ill bring a shitty 10$ present

[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 months ago

Well, not if it's going to be shitty

[-] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Best I can do is a 10$ gift towards a hobby they haven't had since covid.

[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 5 points 2 months ago

Nice to see you're doing better!

Didn't Lemmy have a thing with nuts early on? How about calling it a Nuts Day? Like this: 🥜

[-] HappycamperNZ@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago
[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 months ago

I think that was it! Beans Day 🫘

[-] litchralee@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

I am prepared to bid one cake for your birthday. This one: 🎂

[-] ccunning@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I have never seen a “happy cake day” in the wild but I’m sure they happen. I did wish one personally to another user a couple weeks ago…¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

If I remember correctly Reddit did something with a cake next to the user name or something. Kind of designed to derail the conversation. I'm not sure I want Lemmy interfaces to follow suit.

[-] ccunning@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It may depend on which app you use, but Lemmy already does this. Of course I don’t see any at the moment to use as an example 😅

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

Ah, I wasn't aware! If it's there I guess people will randomly comment on it for sure.

I wonder if it displays it for users of other platforms (like Mastodon) as well. Could cause some fun interactions.

[-] ccunning@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I didn’t really notice them until the last month or so.

It makes sense that there will be a big uptick in accounts hitting their 1 year anniversary right around the 1 year anniversary of the big Reddit exodus…

[-] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I think we should call it something other than cake day. That way we distance ourselves from the site that shall not be named. Like happy independence day or something idk

[-] Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I had the same thought! During the immediate immigration from the other place it seemed like there was a reckless attempt to imitate which is unfortunate. What shall we call it?

[-] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago
[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Still references the other place, albeit vaguely.

How about... Lemmyversary...

Eh.

[-] Donebrach@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Glad it’s doing something for ya.
