Flag proudly displayed in a spacecraft that highlights many of the ailments of the US industry in general, and the traditional aerospace industry in particular.

I'm guessing that was the rationale for sending it back unmanned?

[-] finley@lemm.ee 18 points 2 months ago

Pretty much, but I still say it shouldn’t have been launched in the first place.

[-] juergen@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 2 months ago

For sure. I think if I had to fly these days, I would feel vaguely uneasy if I ended up in a Boeing.

German Lutheran. We don't go for strong feelings.

During the livestream, have sth prepared to short boeing. If it burns up on reentry that will be bad, if it craps out during departure, that will be really bad.

[-] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 2 points 2 months ago

It still can be worse. It can fail while unpluging from station

[-] dch82@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Even worse: It doesn't unplug and now there's a severe safety hazard attached to the space station

Have they determined what the sound on thr speakers is? Death knell? Rectangular obelisk?

I read previously that the ISS was “full” and that the two astronauts that are stuck up there have been “bunking up”. If two more astronauts are coming up (instead of 4), then where do they all sleep?

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

They just attach their sleeping g bags wherever.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Reminds me a bit of hammocks in old sailing ships.

[-] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 months ago

I call the Colbert treadmill.

[-] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 months ago

Crew or not, I'm curious if it does indeed make it back.

[-] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Straight into downtown Los Angeles. Hopefully the Rock is standing by to help

[-] Badeendje@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah.. although without a crew them might be able to make different decisions on flight path or something that would not be possible otherwise.

I have Zero knowledge on this specific subject though so I don't know if it matters.

What is the emergency plan until dragon arrives if they need to evacuate?

[-] hydrashok@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

The other dragon that’s already there is used and the extra people are strapped to the floor. They don’t even need suits (while yes, it would be needed in a decompression event, they’re mostly there for cooling and communications).

Dragon can bring six back in one craft, it just won’t be very comfortable for two of them. But they’ll be alive.

I thought I read that somewhere. Thanks!
