not even a shitpost, this is 100% accurate lol. it really is none of their fucking business

[-] Spellinbee@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

That's something that's never made sense to me. When I've been hiring for positions. I didn't care if they took some time off working.

[-] nautilus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

You’re a less valuable workhorse to them if you haven’t been slaving for the man your entire life

[-] STRIKINGdebate2@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago

Funny how that works. Can't get a job because of a gap in the resume. Not getting hired leads to an even bigger gap. Its a vicious cycle.

Capitalist class can't stand it when the human stock isn't working.

You can tell most interviewers that you were caring for family during that gap and they won't question further. Lie through your teeth, fuck em.

[-] quicksand@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

It's not even lying, you're a member of your family. Technically it's a truthful answer and if they assume something that they don't want to pursue further, that's on them.

[-] solstice@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

I just told the truth. Personal time off, health and wellness, weight loss, surfing, travel, and yes vibing doing nothing.

It went over well. Most interviewers were more interested in that than my professional experience. Most people can't do that and want to know what it's like.

For my part, I don't want to work for/with people who look down on that sort of thing.

Warning: my resume is extremely strong so I have a lot of leverage. YMMV

[-] Tangent5280@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Hi, how strong does your resume have to be to be treated this way?

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Not the person you're responding to, but I myself have a decade of machine shop and fabrication experience, along with another five years of CAD/drafting. Those two things, together, on a resume is apparently important enough that testing positive for THC on a pre employment drug test is ignored.

[-] Smokeydope@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Damn im a little jealous, have a fairly strong resume that may be enough to get past a thc positive test depending on the job and how desperate they are, but I don't really want to risk potential prospects and for now stick with... conventional options for getting past when needed. I hope I get to the point where either I do my own thing or grow some balls and just not worry about it.

If I can afford it and my basic needs are met, than by God it's my right to do nothing and eat chips all day.
