I wonder which faction they'll use this time? The gameplay kinda depends on there being a huge horde of grunts to mow down, and they've now used the two non-humans factions that that description applies to

Skaven to finally make their 40k debut

Then the space marines will get their asses kicked. There's no way Humans can stand up to the de-atomizer guns of the necrons

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not exactly up to date on my 40k lore, do the necrons have some kind of disposable chaff unit now? Back when I played they were the tankiest army in the entire game, which definitely doesn't work for a game in which you are usually carving through a massive mob

::: Space Marine 2 spoilers I was, of course, pretty gutted that they never showed up in the latter part of the campaign. I was playing through the campaign with a friend that doesn't know the setting much but who loves Terminator, and the instant I saw the signs of necron stuff going on I thought I was going to get to see him become Power Armour Kyle Reese :::

Basic Necron Warriors have always been innumerable and disposable.Their number is legion, their name is death. Lorewise gauss weapons shred their armor i guess, but it's also been inconsistent as they are not always high AP on the table.

Usually if Necron Warriors are portrayed as unstoppable killing machines it's because they were in their pre-5th edition lore where they were on par with space marines, and limited in number because it's always on a Tomb World that is just starting to wake up.

Ahh, that thing about the editions tracks with when I was playing on the tabletop. There were a couple of necron armies in the group I played with and they were always right stubborn bastards to put down. They didn't hit that hard, but you sure as hell had to hit them hard if you wanted to make any headway

I mean, can we go back to more SM1 than 2? I wanna play boi dress up with each chapter. Not just the Ultra Marines and other loyalists.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I thought you could do that with the PvP mode in SM2?

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The issue is the customization. I dont know how everyone else feels but SM1 was better because we got to play dress up with any chapter we wanted pretty much. SM2 has a fraction of that. What it does have 80% is Ultra Marine focused.

I’ve been happy with my blood Angel jump pack marine, although the unlock treadmill was a bit slow for my liking

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm so thankful for them. Love me some Blood Angels. But go back and look at the customization in SM1. It was an entire universe apart.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I’ll do that. You’re right in that it’s been years since I booted up the original. I want some death company gear too which I don’t think is in 2 at all.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I had to make my own Blood Angels death company stuff with just colors. NGL, I'm very skeptical about the best parts of this game not being completely backed apart for the 3rd round. Shareholders can't resist selling us cosmetics. At least 2 let's you mod it.

[–] Aequitas38472@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Game got pretty stale with the same enemies over and over.

Dark Tide was a lot cooler I thought

This kinda disappoints me. They promised a long lifecycle and that was one of the reasons I purchase. Granted I honestly did end up not liking the gameplay a ton (specifically invasions which I thought I’d love.) That said I really doubt anything they are developing is going to be a meaningful improvement. They should have supported 2 for a couple years worked in some new ideas/control/tech. Any campaign or enemy’s in the meantime could have been DLc and people would have purchased it. I’m not interested in “spacemarine” becoming a yearly or bi yearly release.

Quick edit because I didn’t express myself super clearly, they clearly state in the article this is years away and they plan to continue to support 2. But now to me it feels there are going to be two separate teams working on Warhammer at saber and not one focused on

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 6 points 2 weeks ago

2 was announced three years before it released, so I wouldn't expect this to necessarily mean 3 is coming that soon

[–] joecamnet@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Will they make another collector's edition with an awesome statue like they did for Space Marine II? They might get me with another crazy statue.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Okay, but the first game didn't even release with all its content

Don't get me wrong, it was a good game, but we should really get a bit less used to buying unfinished games at AAA pricing. This is especially true if they're going to move on to a sequel this quickly

[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know why they priced it 60 dollars in the US. But Space Marine 2 has a really generous regional pricing. Converted to USD it's around 30 bucks to get Space Marine 2 and with the current sale it's around 22 bucks to get it. At that prices it's quite worth it in my opinion.

[–] HollowNaught@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's not what I was saying. I was criticising them releasing a game, charging full price for it, promising the game's full features to come out later, then moving on to a sequel ~7 months later
