I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a federal worker.

Right now I'm working on my resume. I'm open to work, preferably in finance as I have my accounting degree. If you know of anyone hiring please let me know.

As I have mentioned before, please do not post your political beliefs as I am not interested in debates or opinions. During this time, please remember that government employees are workers at risk of losing their job. It's scary as most of us have dedicated our careers to government and government operations is all that most of us know and now will be forced to look outside for other options and start over. No matter which side everyone is one, no one wants to lose their job so please be mindful of this. Remember that government employees are humans too and it is a very scary time for most of us and our families.

I've noticed it's always "let's not make this political" when their faces are being eaten.

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 96 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I feel like we need a c/letsnotmakethispolitical to track these

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 76 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I was just saying we need a Herman Cain Award type community for Trumpers who have gotten deported, fired, or can't afford eggs! Let's not make this political is a perfect name!

Call me a shithead, but that's when I fucking rub it in. No. Fuck you. You don't get to suffer what you intended others to suffer and plead mercy. Fuck you. You gonna HEAR from me.

[–] Idontevenknowanymore@mander.xyz 18 points 1 week ago

I mean you're probably a shit head , but that doesn't make you wrong .

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Politics is when I make bad stuff happen to people I hate. So when bad stuff I helped cause happens to me, this cannot possibly be politics.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At least they're not projecting the "you weren't supposed to hurt us. You were supposed to hurt everyone else" vibe that I see a lot. This one tone deaf, but not as bad as the others I've seen.

The 2nd part about "don't mention politics" is twice as long as "I've lost my job".
And still ends with:

Remember that government employees are humans too and it is a very scary time for most of us and our families.

As if that isn't the left-wing (most countries would call centre) modus operandi: people are people

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 85 points 1 week ago

They don't want to talk politics because their political belief was in hurting other people.

Fuck em. If they voted for this shit they deserve the suffering.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 72 points 1 week ago

We're all human when it hurts you, but not deporting people or hurting trans people. Ok.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 67 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nope, no sympathy or empathy here for you. You should have known better cause you're a fucking adult.

[–] melpomenesclevage@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

there's a point to sympathy kindness and compassion.

it feels good, makes you a better person, and creates a better, kinder, more resilient world.

except when you apply it to nazis. then it feels shitty, makes you a worse person, and contributes to the well being of nazis that helps them destroy everything that has ever been decent or virtuous.

This is sort of restating Karl Poppers "Pardox of Intolerance". As Popper points out, If you do tolerate intolerance, you end up awash in intolerance.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance; thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. This paradox was articulated by philosopher Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945)

simple solution, already strongly hinted at:

why be tolerant? what is the point of it? it can be a pain sometimes. so why is it worthwhile? what results does it produce? what results does it prevent? what drives does it sate or processes does it lubricate?

I tolerate shit I don't necessarily love because it increases diversity, which means more different positions people can come at ideas from. even if this means more ways people can be fucking stupid and fucking wrong, it also means more cool novel solutions, and at scale, that's a really fucking huge benefit. it also means more ways people do/know stuff that I might not, if I want to change or improve, I have more well practiced intellectual traditions around me to draw on.

plus, if I didn't want to tolerate other people's ways of just-about-everything, what would the mechanism of that be? the mechanism of that would have to be some sort of horrible ugly manipulation and/or coercion. strict social ostracism that would take a high level of cohesion to pull off and be targeted wrong a certain percentage of the time, engines of authoritarian violence with all the many many slippery slopes those send you down, or something else profoundly manipulative/coercive that narrows possibilities and creates massive costs. that's all pretty awful, and I don't think most of the ways people are different than me are even a fraction as bad as that. I would rather leave a little slack in my social interactions for differing perspectives I don't necessarily agree with, than spend half my time and energy curating my social world with violence. I don't need to be even more of an asshole all the time than I already am. that does not sound like a fun time. therefore: tolerance

I mean, I fucking hate christianity, but I'd drop acid with a quaker before I'd eat lunch in the same restaurant as a cop. genuinely cool ideas have come from christian perspectives, even if I find it grating to be around them. I would hate to be without godel's uncertainty or the pedagogy of the oppressed.

fascism, fascism is bad. anything so totalizing and solipsistic requires all that coercive setup to prune away the parts of society it doesn't like. so that's one of the major costs of this anyway. fascism had cut out its entire artistic and intellectual tradition by the 1960s, and honestly two fasion designers did the bulk of the worthwhile work there anyway, so they might've just been flukes. it has nothing more to contribute, and it has costs so much worse than the violent curation of it. I think the violence of even the most explicit and thorough antifascist pipe dream pales in comparison to an average fascist's exercise of influence in society. I don't think people holding fascist, or fascist-compatible (because that's such a narrow and necessarily shrinking range) perspectives alone could keep the trains running and the water clean. they've already demonstrated that they won't even try. so tolerating fascism would prove to have some pretty radical costs even to someone who wasn't a queer anarchist. plus, I spent a lot of time playing wolfenstein on my dad's computer; dead nazis just make me a nostalgic sorta happy.

'paradox' solved, I think.

do you wanna stop fascism? want to see trump and elon musk lose power?

working class solidarity is the first step

our entire lives, we've been tricked and manipulated into fighting among ourselves, because they know if we worked together, we would be able to take them down.

why do you think, every time that something bad happens, there's all the media spin about who we should blame?

they love to do this for age, think about all the boomers vs. gen X vs. gen Z articles and social media posts you've seen

but they do the same shit all the time with different things. their aim is to split the working class into as many splinter groups as possible.

we need to stop letting the assholes in power divide us like this.

unfortunately, that means extending solidarity to people who haven't earned it, including people who chose to vote for Trump.

most of these people were tricked and manipulated. many of them have been fed a steady diet of misinformation. many of them are proud, insufferable bigots.

but being smugly superior, insulting, rude or intolerant isn't how we change people's minds. the best way to do that is by having a two-way conversation.

we are all so busy yelling at eachother. it doesn't work. we need solidarity.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (22 children)

No, it does not mean extending solidarity to people who are ok with hurting everyone but themselves, they can go and fuck right off. So whatever solidarity you have in your mind, I for one won't be a part of that

He may not be interested in debates, but his choices show that he has terrible judgement.

[–] SaraTonin@lemm.ee 31 points 1 week ago

Also, what’s the betting that they were very interested in “debates” before the negative consequences affected them directly?

[–] GoodEye8@lemm.ee 28 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Also, there wouldn't be "a debate" if he admitted making a mistake.

Alternative facts means never having to say you're sorry.

"I'm sorry you lost your job serving our society in the Federal government. I'm sorry that some selfish fascist idiots though it was better to harm others with their vote for trump without for one second thinking about the consequences to American society. If I ran into one of those people, I'd tell them they were selfish assholes. You and I both know that those idiots are now getting what they voted for. I hope they're happy about it and with the results of screwing us all over."

[–] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

This is what you voted for. I have zero sympathy

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

'Please don't make this political' should read as 'I know my politics caused this to happen, please don't show me i helped do this to myself'

Imagine if this were happening under a Democrat admin, would this person even consider not making it political?

Before the current administration government workers were one of the most secure positions under the largest employer in the country. People would take a pay cut to avoid the more volatile private industries for the security and benefits of a government job. Now our allies abroad and internal workers no longer can trust in those securities.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 14 points 1 week ago

If they voted for politicians that deny human rights to others, I wouldn’t call them human.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Suddenly they don't want to talk about political opinions? Fat fucking chance of that, bud.
