Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Look, your problem is all the competition. Lots of Linux users putting out Linux memes. So, to get a foothold you simply need to kill all the Linux users.

I've started a neovim customizations using kickstarter.nvim, is fine to share it there once i finish it or should i keep it more linux related?

    [–] JustAnotherKay@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like as long as you're running nvim in Linux you could take a screenshot of the whole desktop with nvim open to pass it off as ricing

    [–] drew_belloc@programming.dev 1 points 7 hours ago

That works, i've subbed anyway, gonna try out some wayland WMs and post there some ricing later

Why are you looking at a skeleton while trying to make your community popular?

    [–] azha@lemm.ee 3 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I became the skeleton trying to make my community popular. because its not easy

    [–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 6 points 9 hours ago

I mean I used to care about that but I kind of don't anymore.

Laptop running sway with literally nothing else except nautilus and Firefox, colorful wallpapers, transparent panels (not the focused one of course)

My desktop meanwhile is stock cinnamon. I actually have no idea how to edit anything in cinnamon but I've changed the wallpaper.

    [–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

    I do not care either.

But other people who are not me do care.

    [–] azha@lemm.ee 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

and thats why I created LinuxBeauty, to share simple tutorials on simple customizations that will change the look of your desktop.

    [–] stembolts@programming.dev 1 points 9 hours ago

Most of my customization is backend (cronned git autocommits for doc clouds, automated file transfers for media share, scripted reprovisioning of locked down systems (steamdeck), webui automation for app access via ssh), but I appreciate front-end customization because it helps me to learn about the tools used to do so in case I ever do feel like adding some eye candy.

Idk why so many folks act like two things can't be good. Cool community idea. I'm not quite a customizer, but I am more KDE and less XFCE.

What's the difference between that and !unixporn@lemmy.world which is even hosted on the same instance?

    [–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (1 children)

One is about shagging your computer and the other one is about making it prettier. Duh.

    [–] azha@lemm.ee 30 points 1 day ago

thanks man that kinda uplifted me

    [–] moonlight@fedia.io 13 points 23 hours ago

I think it's redundant. I wish the community didn't keep its slightly cringeworthy reddit name, but it doesn't make sense to have essentially a copy of the same thing under a new name, especially when it doesn't have a lot of posts to start with.

    [–] lennee@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago

    this one is not nsfw

    [–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 18 points 20 hours ago (1 children)
    [–] azha@lemm.ee 2 points 12 hours ago

    This one is different

I’m gonna get some screenshots together for a post, leaving this comment as a reminder to myself.

But yeah, if this community could have a few less chibi anime waifu wallpapers than UnixPorn does, I’m totally down to support it.

    [–] azha@lemm.ee 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

thanks bro its means a lot, i mean i am not getting anything from the community I built but as a Linux user I just like to be helpful and share knowledge so others can benefit from it, because personally I had a hard time finding good tutorials or guides on customizing my Linux Mint. and yea Linux Beauty is just showing off the hidden beauty of Linux not making it look aggressive like the ones on UnixPorn.

    [–] Fecundpossum@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

lol, my riced out EndeavourOS install running Hyprland could probably be considered aggressive modification, but with the right wallpaper and settings it looks pretty clean and minimal. I’ll see about getting some screenshots when I have time for a post.

But yeah, I like the idea you’re running with. I’ve been all over the linuxsphere distrohopping and there are a lot of very pretty desktop environments out there. Even just Linux Mint Cinnamon without any modification is a gorgeous desktop.
