Oh well, I'm tapping out. Damn. I hoped it would be official before I went to sleep, but the final few polls are just trickling in. But, I'm going to bed happy, so there's that.

We can only hope that the same thing happens to Dutton on Saturday.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

See if you can provoke Trump into "Truthing" about making Australia the 52nd state. It did wonders for the left-leaning Liberals in Canada. Your Liberals are right-wing, but they're slɐɹǝqᴉ˥ so I don't know if that makes things work the opposite way or not.

[–] Salvo@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago

I was thinking about that, but that would require Me getting back on Twitter and riling the Orange Clown up about his Australian puppets.

I’m not willing to jump on that grenade because I no longe have a Twitter account and I don’t want anything to do with him.

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago

That would be so sweet. I remember last election it was pretty close for his seat but he hung on.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

This result is so close that it's entirely possible that Trump's "Truth" this morning with his 51st state threat resulted in PP losing his seat.

[–] ninthant@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 hours ago

Given how the CPC turnout was well above expected nationally, it seems more likely this was a result of the hard work Fanjoy’ team put in there and PP’s natural anti-charisma.

And boom goes the dynamite.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, back up above 50%. Any remaining polls would have to be massively out of whack with what we've seen so far to change anything.

Will the Conservatives force someone to resign just to give him a seat?

Probably, that's pretty on-brand

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Seems likely, but he's pretty weak now. I assume the knives are going to be out.

[–] fourish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Yup, even more on brand.

They eat their wounded.

[–] GrizzlyBur@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Jagmeet is already, gone, I think PP isn't long for politics going forward. I think this is great, we need fresh blood and I hope CONs realize their strats aren't gonna cut it.

I don't want the CONs gone from Canada, I want them to reform into a party worthy of respect -- just differing in opinion of how to progress Canada forward.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I'd love that. I don't like a lot of the laws the Liberals have passed, especially the misguided way they tried to tax Facebook and Google to promote Canadian news. It would be great if there were a sane alternative party that actually had ideas for how to do things differently. The current conservatives are focused on culture war BS, lowering taxes while handing more money to corporations, and if Harper's reign was any guide, muzzling scientists and giving away rights Canadians enjoy.

[–] GrizzlyBur@lemmy.ca 1 points 42 minutes ago

My entire region, the CONs sweeped it. Rough! I'm glad federally the Libs won though. I just made a detailed post about it in my regions lemmy community.

I really hope the CONs that just won and keep their seats are able to go up to bat to defend Windsor from the worst effects of the Trump Tariffs. This region stands to be the most afflicted.

[–] WilfordGrimley@linux.community 2 points 3 hours ago

It's going to be the seat from thr 25yo that the Cons stole from their experienced incumbent.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

He’s gonna force himself through the gate to parliament once again.
