Got the news - I got the job!
Funny thing was, they were trying to call me all week but they thought I wasn't answering until they got through and found that they were calling the wrong number - it had somehow been entered wrong, so just as well I sent my resume through to the original person! Just a few extra bits of paperwork and the induction next Thursday and then we'll see when I actually start (probably week after).

Well the funeral for my grandma was today.

It was an emotional day. I’m glad my friend came with me today to lend me some emotional support.

The eulogies were really hard to get through, more so for the speakers.

It was open casket so I got to see her and say good bye to her one last time.

I’m ready for a rest after today.

Just got back from port melbourne beach.

Been a while since I've been but that water isn't too good. Swimming through a shitload of plastic and probably a thin layer of bunker oil.

Also poor form award to the wanker who was sinking tinnies and yelling at women that they looked hot. The beach should be a place where you can get your kit off and not have that shit happen.

A bit of a ramble here. So you know when kids are young and they get asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" A doctor, a vet, a teacher. And your reply "well you can be anything you want to be".

Then they get a bit older and they still have those dreams so you have to let them down gently. A doctor maybe not. There's blood and guts involved and you're not really good with that kind of stuff are you? A vet. Well you've gotta shove your arm up a cow's rear end. I mean they give you a glove and all but still are you prepared for that? A teacher. Um yeah they get paid good but you gotta put up with arsehole children and their arsehole parents. Not enough pay for that.

Anyway after much consideration, my daughter would like to do something sciencey. That's cool. She has her heart set on uni. She's smart. Whatever makes her happy. My only question was "Does this mean you're not leaving home anytime soon because Mummy would like her sewing room back?" Her response "Have you seen the cost of houses lately? We are in a crisis. Nah it's probably best I stay here".

The thing is from the time she was little she has always wanted to do something sciencey. Sure shit changed along the way but she always had that as a goal and her mum and dad will support her no matter what. We are investing in her future so at least she can have one. I don't ever want her to leave home.

Running the washing machine and cooling all day...zero grid usage.

Solar should be fucking compulsory in any property offered for rent

Omg guys I have gone to a 4/10 from a 1.5/10. Need to apply another coat of paint but we're getting there 😳https://i.imgur.com/lv7iuLQ.jpg mmm, unless you look really closely at the door - you can't see the little divot but hopefully it's gone with the second coat of paint. Else, do I wait for paint to dry and putty+sand again?

[-] wscholermann@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Based on that photo can't even tell a hole was there. But second coat of paint definitely wouldn't hurt.

It looks like I've got shingles (appt later to confirm since I'm developing the symptoms my specialist on Wednesday said to keep an eye out for)... What a pain in the fkn arse!

That's going to be an embarrassing email to my new section since it's contagious to those who've not had chickenpox.

I didn't get any work done yesterday, but I did get started today - the trick was to tell myself I am good at what I do and people need me, and actually believe that for long enough to get the dopamine going. It probably helped that I caught up with someone from work yesterday. Stupid brain tricks, it's like working with a petulant child sometimes to just pay for a roof over my head

[-] Pilk@aussie.zone 7 points 10 months ago

The thread in the other place from someone thinking they were ripped off by their property manager is a trainwreck.

OP has now learned that monthly rent is not 4× the weekly rent.

And a bunch of commenters have learned that there aren't exactly 52 weeks in a year either.

Classic.

Vodka is a great pain killer. Shall we play a round of dodgy art requests? Pet portraits welcome but you can also just makeup things. Beep mm boop. a tray of pencils

[-] useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

Let’s be safe out there today. Look up and live.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 10 months ago

A bit random. I see two possibilities here. One is that you are concerned for the safety of all those working under powerlines.

The second possibility is that you are in fact a serial killer, who will be targeting those walking while looking down at their phones. "Look up and live" is as much ultimatum as warning. In some obscure corner of the internet we will find a detailed manifesto where you explain these people have been infected with a social media-transmitted virus that turns them into phone zombies. You are trying to cleanse humanity of the virus before it is too late.

Holy shit. My physical and mental state are just further deteriorating.

But I’ve got a vet appointment lined up for the hairy baby next week and have ordered two different types of new biscuits to see if she will eat those

I appear to have discovered a new method for sprouting stubborn seeds: give up and order seeds of a different variety. Knowing there is competition on the way could just do the trick. It appears to have worked for my artichoke seeds, anyway.

I parked my car in a dubious spot at the station because I was about to miss the train and didn’t have time to circle around. It was one of those spots where either side has parked too close to the line. Why people don’t park properly? Anyway, I hope to get back before those cars have been moved. I have no faith in those line parkers.

Something stinks and I can't find it. Smells like something died.

I've already cleaned a few likely suspects but am just going to have to go down the list one by one

I was shown an ad to an electric note device. You write by touch and erase by pressing a single button. Reviews said accidental writing and erasing happened often, and once the battery runs out there's no way to use it anymore. It inspired me to buy this: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/mini-magnetic-draw-board-assorted-43112357
very useful when I want to write 5 words but don't feel like it's important enough for a post-it. No electricity needed, no accidental writing, quarter of the price, and fall damage resistant.
