/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I've been telling a friend about this. He doesn't watch Star Trek but when we're looking at what batshit crazy thing happened each week I keep tossing in... "right on track for The Bell Riots".

Just attribute the minor differences to the temporal cold war πŸ‘Œ

Part of me hates that this is happening.

The rest of me is all, β€œIt’s still 2025!! If we have the Bell Riots now we’re still on-pace for a Star Trek future!!”

we’re still on-pace for a Star Trek future!!”

I hope we survive WW3 and the eugenics war.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Me too, I hope my child survives the seemingly inevitable wars that are looming within his lifetime.

But more importantly, I think Humanity will survive. This is a test, one that evolution makes impossible to avoid. If we survive this trial by fire, we will scatter and thrive amongst the stars and prepare for the next test.

Am I being too dreamy? It’s all Star Trek’s fault. :)

Or we will scatter amongst the earth and spend the next several centuries trying not to die of radiation poisoning.

Don't forget Ireland's reunification.

Riots in N. Ireland right now (though it's anti-immigration riots, so probably won't lead to unification):

One thing always leads to another.

As a descendant of the Irish, I completely believe that a totally unrelated argument could snowball into Irish Reunification.

Guinness sucks! (not really but you know...)

(Yes, I know Willie is Scottish.)

The Bell Riots were in September 2024.

Our universe's lack of Eugenics Wars in the 90s was already pretty strong evidence that we're not living in the prime timeline.

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 10 points 23 hours ago

Unless we go for the SNW retcon/Temporal Cold War shenanigans, in which case we still have a chance.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Oh we are getting a Star Trek Futureβ€”the mirror universe one.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

It'll end up being a dumb cracked mirror universe at this rate.

Not even. We're getting the black mirror Trek timeline.

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Shitty Picard season 2 we want to do mirror universe but not.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago

I'd rather not given what comes between. Can we instead get the future of the civilization in Strange New World's pilot episode? They got the advantage of learning from the mistakes Earth made before they did the same and leapfrogged into the better stuff.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Go on memory-alpha and look up what's scheduled to happen in 2026.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

No need, I read the news. :/

[–] teft@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yep. grue is definitely referencing this:

Can't wait to see how Bokai is hitting this year.

[–] klu9@lemmy.ca 6 points 21 hours ago

Well, that timeline has already been derailed.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Wow, they expected genetic engineering to move way faster.

Now I'm not finding that youtube video about a guy not being mugged because the sci-fy story of the mugger happens too early and he can't believe in it...

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not really. Honestly, the "sanctuary cities" were humane compared to what the Trump Administrating is trying to do.

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And now he's wanting to put on a massive military parade, something only the Terrans (and other dictatorship/fascist regimes) would do

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I bet I could put on an awesome democratic military parade. Give awards to whichever group built the best float around their tank. March the color guard intermingled with the local high school color guard. Have the infantry throw candy to the crowd. Let the marching band rock out.

But I agree that, in general, military parades are not a good look.

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 22 hours ago

I don't like candy coating what a military is.

It's a nation's group of killers that should only be seen in case of a dire emergency, when killing tons of people is somehow the lesser evil in a given scenario.

Asking them to toss beads and rock out is a waste of resources at best, propaganda at worst.
