I didn't realize he had to sit across from empty seats, that's fucking glorious

[–] WaterSword@discuss.tchncs.de 168 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Fyi: here’s the unaltered image

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 109 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

This pic is cropped so you can't see the empty lawn just passed the people by the fence they couldn't see over.

Edit - Here is newsweeks slightly less cropped version and all the empty space is clearly visible.

Edit 2 - Here is a NYT photo that really shows how few people really showed up.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 39 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

He looks so pathetic standing there saluting while everybody else is seated around him.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 48 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Especially since those troops are representing the Vietnam War. You know, the know he dodged the draft for.

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh was that the moment they played 'fortunate son'?

There are bootloads of Things you can blame Trump for, but dodging the draft for such an unnecessary stupid war is something everyone remotely intelligent person would have done if capable

[–] Laser@feddit.org 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

It's not only about that he dodged it, but the fact that he now has this stupid parade after dodging (and still not admitting that he was only able to dodge on a falsified doctor's note that he got because he comes from a rich family). Either you think the military is stupid, then dodging the draft makes sense, but the parade doesn't or the other way around. He's just doing both which is hypocritical. Not surprising though

Lmao that NYT photo, is this a federal parade or local band night at the city park?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Local cover band even.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I’ve seen neater lines from middle school marching bands. What the actual fuck.

Zoom in for details, its funny (and photoshopped)

[–] Soulg@ani.social 50 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well now I see it, oh well I'll leave the comment up to be mocked

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 15 points 3 weeks ago

No mockery needed, it's still very valid

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 3 weeks ago

Even so, he's known for waving to invisible crowds. Wasn't there footage of him doing it when leaving court last year before E-Day?

Did you completely miss Bernie photoshopped in?

[–] Sho@lemmy.world 55 points 3 weeks ago

I love the Bernie photoshop inclusion, classy.

My home town has an annual 4th of july parade. They feature the High School's marching band, about a dozen firetrucks from nearby cities, and about 160 vehicles total. The local flight school flies a loose formation of 5 Cessna 150s over the route.

Attendance is usually between 10,000 and 12,000.

This apple is a bit spicy, pungent, and seems to be comprised of a lot of layers.

What a fucking loser.

This comment section is perfect proof that most people literally don't read news, and have the memory and attention span of a golden retirever puppy.

The wind of the collective whoooosh from people missing the joke could be a new major source of renewable energy.

Pathetic.

Nice job on our military for following orders but making it very obvious they don't give a flying fuck about drumpf's lousy birthday. Now that is exactly what I wanted to see-- out of step marching (they absolutely know how to march perfectly, it's literally drilled into them), old ass machinery, and never once saying HB to that ass-clown, they made it about the army instead. Niiice

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 weeks ago

Old military equipment is part of any parade though, the tank in the photo is a ww2 Sherman.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 57 points 3 weeks ago

This is the sphere in Las Vegas it holds a standing room capacity of 20,000 people or about 2.3x more people than attended Donny’s birthday flop parade.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 48 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Bro, the protest in fucking wichita had ~5k

That is saaad

Doesn't matter. Hell just lie and say 800 million people attended.

[–] caboose2006@lemm.ee 33 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

All the mainstream media is reporting 250,000 because some trump official Xcreated that. Maybe if you include the No Kings protests going on around the parade it's 250k

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 15 points 3 weeks ago

My opinion of SBS sunk further when they put 'huge' in the title of their article about it.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

To spell it out for y'all, it's a joke number.

86 means to stop, get rid of, or kill.

47 is the trump president number.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 32 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Is that for people in the parade? Or forced to watch it in person?

[–] scott@lemmy.org 83 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

OK I had to look it up but the joke is "86" as in "get rid of" and 47, that is, Trump

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 31 points 3 weeks ago

Aaaahhh, I totally missed that. The comma threw me off thinking it was a real number.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Didn't some Fox blithering idiots interpret that as a death threat or something a few weeks ago?

[–] Nusm@yall.theatl.social 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Everything is a threat to them. They want to be victims sooooo bad.

They advertised for seat fillers, so a lot of those people were literally paid to be there.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

More likely they were promised payment, but have yet to collect.

Yes. The thing was to showcase 250 years of American Army, not modern shit.

It's worth mentioning that the entire DC Metro area is roughly 6 Million people. Calling this a small turnout for a city that size, let alone the whole country, is an understatement.
