Humans should be able to move as freely between countries as money is allowed to.
Casual Conversation
Share a story, ask a question, or start a conversation about (almost) anything you desire. Maybe you'll make some friends in the process.
RULES
- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
- Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
- Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world
- Keep it clean and SFW
- No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc.

Yes. I’m for free trade agreements, so long as those agreements include the free movement of labor just as much as the free movement of capital.
This is a really great point
Nationalists: No! You should sit here! And to make sure that you will stay, we will do everything possible to make sure that you know only the local language used only in this tiny country.
And you only get to understand the culture of your specific region of your tiny country, no understanding the beliefs of others!
Eliminating national borders would lead to trillions in economic growth, too.
In a similar ish vein, I can't imagine living on an island. You're super stuck there
I would love that with internet and WFH. But I'm like half fish anyway. I could easily spend half my life in or on the water.
Meanwhile, in Britain:
Hi from Australia! It's alright.
When it comes to immigration in the US I feel the exact same way. As some privileged pasty white guy born here I just couldn’t give a rat’s ass if someone crosses the imaginary line illegally. Sure, if they commit a crime they might have to go to jail — but the way the current regime I mean administration is handling things is way off base.
I bring all this up because I kind of thought most of the left here thought the same way as I did but I’ve seen over the past couple years that even my side of the political aisle is in support of fucking over immigrants too.
I totally get the feeling.
Between borders and places with dangerous governments or wars there's just so much of the world a lot of people can never see
I live in the Netherlands. Please don't feel sorry for us, there's a lot of assholes over here, and we've got a pretty good life going.
I've always found it a bit odd. But some people find it very important
Passports are such a scam
I'm all for free travel across borders, and simpler ways to support legal emigration/change of citizenship. But I'm highly suspicious of any whole-world government. Because even if it's founded in decency and humanitarianism, there will come the inevitable day when it falls into the hands of the corrupt, who will exploit, undermine, and finally countermand all its wholesome measures. And there will be nowhere to run.
