👏 Turn 👏 off 👏 the 👏 power.

Even just for an hour. Until all levels of US government understands that Canada is able to disrupt their country in a massive way they will keep playing these stupid games.

[–] LaserTurboShark69@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Idk I feel like cutting off basic needs for large swathes of civilians might be an irresponsible escalation of an already devolving situation

[–] nik282000@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

They are already doing just that to their own people AND we are in their sights. How much to Canadians have to suffer before it's "ok" to push back.

[–] Dhar@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

"I know they're killing children, but we have to remain polite!"

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 47 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Bring it, bitch.

I will never visit the us again. i cancelled netflix, prime, apple music. i use crave, cbc gem, and qobuz now. i installed ubuntu on my old surface pro and it works beautifully. switched to libre office. my next phone will be a fairphone.

when i go to the grocery store, if an item i want is a product of the usa, i eat something else.

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 days ago

I also cancelled and use the same services! Qobuz is pretty good, it has a lot of room to improve but it’s keeping me more up to date with music than Apple was.

I got Sync.com (Canadian) instead of iCloud (though iCloud is not fully replaceable). My backup server is in the EU because I use custom borg scripts, but there’s also eazyBackup in Canada.

I own my own domain for email, and I bought my wife one too so she can get off of Gmail.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

Legend. I had cancelled all that but then Telus came in and offered it for free. So technically I have it, but I'm not really paying for it.

This letter has to be one of the greatest rage-bait posts ever. Trump really know how to do it.

the United States of America has agreed to continue working with Canada, despite Canada having financially retaliated against the United States

Barely and only after he swung the first blow and started shit over nothing, yeah.

the United States imposed Tariffs on Canada to deal with our National Fentanyl crisis, which is caused, in part, by Canada's failure to stop the drugs from pouring into our Country.

"In part" meaning less than a single percent. "Failure to stop" meaning a massive increase in border presence and fentanyl seizures.

Source

Instead of working with the United States

See above, we implemented border security measures to appease the charade of Fentanyl being an issue.

Source

there will be no Tariff if Canada, or companies within your Country, decide to build or manufacture product within the United States

Perfect! Let's just make ourselves the States' little bitch, completely reliant on them for everything and with no details on how much production we even have to move over so that he can just say we didn't fulfill our part of the bargain whenever he wants. Why wouldn't we do that? Jesus H Christ.

Canada charges extraordinary Tariffs to our Dairy Farmers — up to 400%

Two things, 1. tariffs to protect your local agriculture makes sense to not become reliant on other countries for food. 2. that "up to" is doing HEAVY lifting as those high rates are almost never in effect¹, so why do you even care. Oh right, you don't care! This is all a sham.

it's only enraging if you take him at his word, which you should never do. It's all lies and projection, and he's going to do whatever he's going to do regardless of the response.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 14 points 6 days ago

So are we gonna get a TACO pool going... everyone bet which day Trump caves and winner takes all.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

"You will never be disappointed with the United States of America."

We're fucking disappointed. Every fucking year of this relationshit. You are an utter disappointment in nearly every way.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 11 points 6 days ago

Less trade with the US the better

Hopefully he actually follows through

[–] Showroom7561@lemmy.ca 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Meh. He'll change his mind at least 15 more times before Aug 1st.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Every 2 weeks, methinks...

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 6 days ago

2 weeks Trumpy time is either very short or never happens.

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Carney can't decide if he wants elbows up or not. In fact, he flipflops so much, he looks like hes doing the chicken dance.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (3 children)

No I think he knows exactly what he's doing and it has very little to do with anything Trump does, despite what he or anyone else says.

He's handing our money to corporations and butt fucking us in a much quieter way than PP would have, but he seems to be doing it very intentionally.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So fucken true!! Really disappointed in Carney so far. He’s not standing up to Trump, doing everything in secret, no updates. Paying American companies for military equipment (night vision), not cancelling the fighter jets order, begging the abuser to trade with us while we’re giving shit up left right and centre. Fuck this!! But PP and cons would not be better.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

doing everything in secret, no updates.

Do you think it would be beneficial for him to put out a press release saying what aces he has up his sleeve, what the plan is to counter Trump's next move, or any other parts of the negotiations?

Do you think the Americans won't love to learn those things?

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

He should be making weekly statements to Canadians, I thought we were in an emergency or crisis and Carney get elected then clams TF up. Could be vague but he should be communicating with Canada and giving us a status update. Actually Carney should just fucking walk away.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

He should be making weekly statements to Canadians,

Saying what exactly?

"We are still attempting to negotiate with the Trump administration, but with the changing situation the negotiations are at a delicate point and I cannot risk divulging any further details that might further complicate already challenging discussions".

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

He should say “we are paying this demented fascist regime lip service but essentially walking away”

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He's a banker. He's on capitalism's side, not the people's.

I suppose you're right. It's irresponsible to let him plead stupidity for fleecing us, when it's all very calculated.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

What are some examples? The DST is postponed as trade leverage which is still ongoing. I haven't seen him flop flop on anything yet, and he hasn't been PM for long enough to see how anything had played out. He seems very calculated and has been getting great results so far within Canada and internationally.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Oh, no! Empty threats. What will the world do.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

giv'er buddy, we don't want your shit or your business.

[–] CanadianCorhen@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Just match the American tariffs. They will end up doing the same thing as they did with China: end up backing off.

[–] Benedict_Espinosa@europe.pub 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

China has much more leverage than Canada, and they have 30% coming on them in August. So not too much hope of Trump backing off very far, unfortunately.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

I just want him to make up his mind and stick to it
