Italians have great raw ingredients, if only somebody would teach them how to use them.

From an European perspective, it has always been a point of divergence with my American friends and colleagues. They always want the fattier, more sugar-full version arguing there's more taste and it's "real food", but in our point of view it taste like junk and don't compete a second with a home-made traditional one (and are pricier !).

[-] vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 year ago

That. Unless Domino’s has a completely different pricing strategy in the US, They are the expensive option.

I like eating dominos once in a while, it’s a great sweet fatty snack, but it’s not cheaper.

[-] I_Comment_On_EVERYTHING 13 points 1 year ago

Can't speak for the US as a whole but everywhere I've lived Domino's is the cheapest. I can get a medium 2 topping pizza at dominoes for $6.99. We have 3 family run traditional pizza places within driving distance of where I live, for a 2 topping medium pizza they cost: $14.75, $15.99, or $18.99.

It’s the second cheapest here if you for something you don’t cook at home after buying it frozen.

Little Ceaser’s would give an Italian aneurysm, buts like 5 bucks for a week of calories.

Sugar is the devil. The devil is actually quite sweet. I also enjoy putting the devil in my mouth.

Have you ever blown the devil in the pale moonlight?

More of broad daylight in a dog park situation. Thank god for the staffing issues at the local PD

Seeing Dominoes as the standard for American pizza fills me with sadness and shame.

Yes, I know it’s only a shitpost, but still.

What do you mean expensive? A Margherita is usually around 7 euros

[-] Quaxamilliom@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

in the US they are bougie as shit and the cheapest are usually $17 with the average around $25. And they are usually much shittier than any you'll find in Italy.

Okay, I'm going to be that guy because I don't see it being pointed out already.

That's not actual Italian pizza, it's still an Americanized version.

Real Italian pizza is so thin you have to eat it with a fork and knife and it's meant for one person, not to share. The one in the picture is still way too thick to be real Italian.

But real Italian pizza in Italy really is on another level. It's so god damned good, it makes all pizza in America look like cardboard with sauce.

[-] Pyrozo007@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

"Real italian pizza is so thin" Yeah that's just not true, there are many different types of Italian pizza, the most standard of which is like the one pictured. The form varies in popularity by region.

Exactly, plus it's usually cheap as hell too, along with being mind blowing-ly good.

Not everyone gets the chance to go to Italy though, so just enjoy the pizza and op should stop gate keeping a delicious food.

If only the British were willing to share their culinary secrets and dental technology, many of the world's problems could be solved decisively.

Maybe it's different in the states, but Domino's is ridiculously overpriced for pizza in the UK (yes I know you can always find a voucher), you can get two neapolitan pizzas and change for the price of some of the pizzas on the Domino's menu.

Not really sure how they're still afloat over here simply beyond existing momentum

Baffled at the plenty of toppings and lots of cheese notes. Maybe it’s just Dominoes in Canada but I’m fairly certain there’s less cardboard in the box it came in. To each their own I guess.

Domino's crust is always covered with a layer of nasty gritty powder, even if I tell them to not season the crust.

[-] nxdefiant@startrek.website 19 points 1 year ago

it's the cornmeal they use to keep it from sticking during prep

[-] shiveyarbles@beehaw.org 5 points 1 year ago

That's what they want you to think

Yeah that's not seasoning, that's corneal. Unless you mean the edges? Then that's their fake parmesan.

[-] macgyver@federation.red 5 points 1 year ago

Corn flour? Lol

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Both the same price.

Proper Italian pizza - Just a like a mamma used to make

Dominos - 50% shareholder profit, 50 disappointment

[-] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

I know it's a meme, but this is a dumb take. You're comparing two very different things, and they serve two different purposes. Sometimes you want to crush some fast food at 2 am after drinking at the pub, sometimes you want to have really good pizza where less is more and the quality of the ingredients matter. Eat both and be happy you have pizza.
