Boy voluntarily entered car 'so that the other youth could record the interaction,' Airdrie RCMP say

A 12-year-old boy escaped from the car of an alleged abductor that he and a group of other children arranged to meet as part of a "catch a predator scheme" they had devised on the Snapchat app, according to Alberta RCMP, who are strongly discouraging this type of vigilante activity.

There are so many ways this could go wrong.

"Unfortunately, it didn't go as planned," said RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney.

I really want to know how they had "planned" it to go instead.

Wild guess: like it does in all the videos they watched, where the people filming are adults that can't be as easily overpowered, probably come in a group, maybe have legal provision for weapons, and have a level of street smarts that can't be learned from Fortnight (like "don't get in the car").

When a bunch of kids do more to try to protect children from child predators than the entire government of US and the catholic church.

Yes, I get this is dangerous and shouldn't be commended, but come on.

A clear demonstration of the fact that proper risk assessment is one of the last things to develop as kids grow up. Thankfully, he wasn't hurt.

Oh my God, yeah—chills. Don't get in the car is like rule 1. To such an extent that you should even risk grievous bodily harm or death before willingly getting in.

Amazingly dangerous about sums it up. Congratulations, kids, it worked, you got predated.

If you're having a hard time finding a date, just pretend to be a 12 year old.
