Yeah I personally never really could get behind the sentiment of "oh the alt right are trying to claim Pepe? Let's just let them have it I guess".
Some people want cede everything to the right including voting.
Was piefed.social founded by the ADL or what?
Well that's news to me. But then again I hardly post memey things, let alone Pepe.
I think it's mostly come up as an issue because it's meant that piefed.social doesn't federate with lemy.lol (because it uses a Pepe image as its icon), but https://lemmy-federate.com/ uses lemy.lol for back-end operations, so people haven't been able to add communities on piefed.social to it.
That is such a fucking joke OMG.

Of course not. I made this change to make the whole fediverse compatible with Lemmy Federate, not just Piefed.
I feel as though Lemmy federate ought to be able to use multiple instances for its back-end operations. Relying on a single instance is somewhat at odds with the spirit of decentralization.

Actually, Lemmy Federate is not tied to lemy.lol since this update: https://lemy.lol/post/46419115
Piefed.social should decide if they want to add their instance to the Lemmy Federate. I’m not blocking anyone. In fact, there are already two Piefed instances registered to Lemmy Federate. But these instances are using generic ActivityPub client instead of specialized clients unlike Lemmy and Mbin instances.
I’m not against Piefed but I’m not gonna work for a Piefed specific code either for reasons you can imagine.

Weird instance rule, but they pay the bills, so whatever?
I never bought into the whole dogwhistle story about it, but I have found that I just don't mesh well with people who use that meme a lot, so it's kind of a litmus test when I see someone use it.
Same. My instance has a "no ai" rule which I think is a bit harsh but I still respect.
Most people I know who use pepe are pretty liberal
if its AI posts by AI, i can see that, which is pervasive on reddit.
