The Democratic National Committee on Tuesday voted down a resolution calling for a suspension of military aid to Israel in the midst of a famine in Gaza that is a direct result of Israel's near-total blockade on humanitarian aid.

Margaret DeReus, the executive director of IMEU Policy Project, was scathing in her denunciation of the DNC for voting down the resolution and directly called out the influence of pro-Israel groups that have spent millions to defeat progressives like former Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), one of the first Democratic lawmakers to demand a ceasefire after Israel began its assault on Gaza in 2023.

Organizer Asra Nizami noted that "members acknowledged getting hundreds of calls and emails" about supporting the resolution, but voted it down nonetheless.

"This party keeps digging its own grave. And it's owned by AIPAC," said Nizami, referring to the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which donated more than $24 million to Democratic candidates in 2024.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 93 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's like they want to lose the mid terms.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago

I'm worried it's worse. I'm worried they truly don't care. If they lose then it's def not their fault it's your fault and if they lose will they tried sorry biting else we can.

AIPAC does prefer trump, so the dems purposely throwing the election wouldnt surprise me one bit.

8 percent of Democrat voters approve of Israel's actions in Gaza. 8 fucking percent. 4 points off rounding to 0. And these pieces of garbage are going to go on TV and talk about how Donald Trump is undermining democracy.

Fat less than 1% hold all the wealth and power. That means this is (far more than) 8 times the number they need.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

But that 8 percent make up some of the wealthy decision makers that stand to lose a fortune of they don't vomit their support.

Vote blue no matter who, because as bad as the DNC is, the GOP is much worse.

But Primary these DNC bastards every chance you get!

If they ratfuck their way to a general election, they can get fucked. They have sided with republicans by blocking the only viable alternative.

[–] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The problem is even when they lose in the general election, the DNC still looks after them.

Better to have the DNC ratfucker you can remove later, than the GOP pedophile you have no control over.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

What control over the DNC do we have? They’ve ignored the will of the people and pushed AIPAC’s agenda for literally my entire life. When will this magical accountability somehow happen?

Where the fuck is @givesomefucks to tell us all about the new DNC

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

He gives Ken Martin two hot stone massages per day, and those take time to do right. You have to queue up the enya music clips to just the right spots, for starters. The lube needs to be warmed to precise body temperature. People just dont realize how much time it all takes. People suck.

Remember to VOTE BLUE No Matter WHO (UNLESS the DNC DOESNT LIKE who Wins then Vote INDEPENDENT No Matter Who!)!

Sigh. It looks real to me.

This is such a weird hill for the DNC to die on. Without our money and weapons, they will struggle.

The military-industrial complex was coined by a Republican president in his farewell address, warning about how the political landscape can be bought and sold to the rich.

This was before the party swap and the southern strategy, but it's wild that a Republican in the 50s had more of a backbone against the interests of the rich than modern politicians.

DNC has been dead to me for a while now. This doesn’t shock me, but it does disappoint me.

The right campaigned on abortion.

The left campaigned on Gaza.

The right votes.

The left pontificates.

I wonder who keeps winning.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago

The one which has a political party representing them.
