People that idolize celebs are wild to me. Taylor wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire girl.

As I've gotten older my celebs are people that put tutorials on YouTube. Like oh shit, ishaan my favorite electrician just dropped a fire new video on neutrals and grounding on 3 phase. Or that one homesteader just dropped a short on how to grow bigger pumpkins, get the popcorn

If we ban private jets, billionaires will just buy every seat on the commercial jet. This will be even more inefficient fuel wise, and worse for the environment overall.

Don't ban private jets. Ban billionaires.

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago

A limit of seats per person?

[–] MellowYellow13@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

love this and I love how it's triggering all the Swifties

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

No I am not entertained. In fact. I am fed up with all the coverage of them. Let them live their lives in peace so those of us out here tired of the show can also live in peace.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

But at the same time, don't obsess over a bunch of shit you can't change. The doom and gloom is mostly there to sell you shit anyway. Unhappy people spend more.

You can't fix it. It's not your job. Unless you want it to be your job by running for government, just vote appropriately for people that might help fix it. That's your little bit done.

Live your life. Go for a bike ride. Knock one out.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Oh? What am I being sold other than clickbait?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 25 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (2 children)

"We should stop indulging in celebrity and start GIVING A FUCK!"

"Okay, what should we care about?"

"Wow, thanks. Now I'm full of helpless anxiety. Anything I can do about any of this?"

"DO SOMETHING! DO SOMETHING! DO SOMETHING!"

"Well, this has been enervating as fuck. If you don't mind, I'm going back to hide in my den and watch movies until the world ends."

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I think the key here is "we". Collectively if people had a common understanding of what is going on in the world they would be appalled and demand more of our leaders (or get new ones)

Instead people vaguely know what is going on, through the biased lense of their news sources.

I think if you asked most Americans who Netanyahu is and what he is doing you'd get a blank stare. If you ask them what is up with tswift they would excitedly explain that she just got engaged and recently had a crazy expensive tour.

How any of this gets corrected is beyond me, and that's exactly how the people in power want it.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

I think if you asked most Americans who Netanyahu is and what he is doing you’d get a blank stare.

Idk about that. His name has been in national news for decades. Like, maybe somewhere behind Vladimir Putin and Kim Jung Un in terms of US visibility.

How any of this gets corrected is beyond me

Say what you will about the Trotskyists, but they looooved making newspapers. I don't think there's a shortage of modern Alt-Media, either. Not hard to get an earful of press about the state of the world. What's much more tricky is coordinating actions, particularly at the local level. There is not, to my knowledge, a Houston-centric news organization that does a good job of organizing and orienting local people on municipal issues. But I'm a white atheist professional worker out in the suburbs, so its very possible I'm just out of touch with what more radical and well-connected folks in churches and labor unions are up to.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 12 points 18 hours ago

"Wake up sheeple!"

"OK cool youre right I see now, I understand. What are we gonna do about it?"

"They've played you for fools! WAKE UP SEE WHATS HAPPENING"

"Yeah I see its awful. How can we help?"

"You're a pawn in their game WAKE UP"

"Fuck it gonna go have a wank"

I miss the time when the president wearing a tan suit was the biggest scandal in politics.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yes but did you hear about Cracker Barrel??

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 3 points 19 hours ago

That they fired Brad's wife after eleven years of service?

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 13 hours ago (3 children)
  1. Let people be happy about something. this is not helping anyone.

  2. if there is ONE person on the planet who would by popular vote be allowed to have a private jet, it's TayTay.

  3. Gossip was and is a part of human nature, denying it makes no friends for your cause. Don't call it bullshit, just because you don't care.

If you want to DO ACTUAL GOOD:

put a story of palestinian/israleli couple on the fake front page.

Highlight the out of control Israel government with a story that shows protests in israel.

Be FOR something instead of AGAINST something.

[–] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I am FOR the end of billionaires and celebrity worship.

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 hour ago

That's the sprit :)

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

You can argue they are for the end of worthless celebrity worship. Which is something I stand with

[–] MellowYellow13@lemmy.world 0 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

How about you let people be mad about something then? Maybe change can happen. Take your own fucking advice.

Stop promoting celebrity worship you ghoul.

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 hour ago

This made me laugh, thank you :)

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right?

Who gives a flying fuck?

I guess the answer is apparently a shit ton of losers with no lives of their own.

I feel insulted that I've even been forced to be made aware of this over the last 48 hours.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

It isn’t helpful to think of them as losers. Like the image says, no bread all circuses. Without making any inferences about these two people pictured, the media and public focus on their engagement is in the service of maintaining and strengthening the status quo power structures.

Resist the urge to dismiss this as crank conspiracy thinking. There is a system, even if it wasn’t designed and even if it isn’t organized. And the media is by and large a tool of that system.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

idk OP... this is a lot more effort than I put into things idgaf about.

[–] _thebrain_@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That is a lot of effort to say that you don't care....

[–] cattywampas@midwest.social 0 points 10 hours ago

It's hilarious. Taylor Swift posts have to be the easiest rage/engagement bait for sports accounts that have ever existed.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Holy shit banning private jets, yes please

[–] rothaine@lemmy.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

I dunno man. You're already supposed to get to the airport 2 hours early.

Can you imagine the absolute clusterfuck if you were in the security line at the same time as Taylor Swift?

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm marginally happy that anyone anywhere is in love. Cool beans.

Beyond that, I'd rather see people I know have happy and healthy lives. FSM knows they deserve it just as much as these two.

[–] MellowYellow13@lemmy.world 0 points 7 hours ago

You are the decider of who deserves what? Jesus shut the fuck up

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

R’amen to that!

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No bread , all circuses

I've been saying a variation for the past year or a bit longer "Circuses are cheap, bread is expensive"
That's why we have so much entertaiment, but no housing.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Except the circuses AREN'T cheap anymore either, what with the likes of Ticketmaster/Live Nation making it so a concert ticket costs as much as a car and the NFL's only goal being to maximize the profits of the team owners.

Just to use the examples directly related to the billionaire and multimillionaire depicted.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Yeah, you're right. I'm talking more about the clown shows in the news and political systems. Although a netflix subscription or a phone plan is a lot cheaper than a mortgage, and the boomers love to say that the computers and internet are why we can't have houses.

Watching this idiot lipsync after flying in to a concert you paid a month's wage for is a fucking insult.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

The first I heard of Swift's engagement was reporters asking Trump to react, cause every fucking thing is about Trump

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Finally, some good-ass manual meme creation!

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everyone should really read ALL of this image. The headline obviously resonates with a ton of people, but there is a bigger message here that people need to engage with.

I don’t know if this is OC from the author or not, but this is genuinely brilliant.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] deacon@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago

I’m 44 and this is actually stone cold sober reality but have a day friend.

That reminds me, I have to sharpen my guillotine.
