Considering the specialized equipment, not her first rodeo.

[-] blargerer@kbin.social 25 points 11 months ago

Quick searching suggests she hunts them with the traps but has to release when she's over her quota or the season is over.

Why does she hunt them? Are the overpopulated or intrusive or something?

Edit to add: here’s what I found after a few iterations of searching:

Skye Goode is a woman who engages in a regular practice of trapping coyotes around her home, where they pose a threat to the environment.

Unlike other trappers, she uses a humane, modern-day foothold trap that is strong enough to trap a variety of different animals but does not break any bones and does not draw blood.

So she doesn’t hunt wildcats. Where’d you get your info?

I’m glad to know it’s a humane trap because this is not a video of a woman “helping” a wild cat like OP said. It’s a video of a woman mitigating a mistaken impact her traps made on an unintended species. She’s got special equipment for this so clearly expects it. But if she’s dealing with bad coyote problems, and it’s not harmful to the cat, then okay I guess.

Yes, she does only hunt coyotes, the bastards are a menace.

[-] spikederailed@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Coyote were a problem is Charlotte NC, which is far from rural. I could only imagine how bad they are up in Wisconsin where she is at

This just in, directly from my ass.

Story I found is that she hunts coyotes and that these traps are humane, not breaking bones or drawing blood.

[-] JanoRis@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

You might want to replace that it with not. Like that it sounds like tge traps do harm the animals

[-] June@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

Yea that was a typo

[-] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 19 points 11 months ago

She's also probably responsible for the trap in the first place.

First video of an animal being released where it doesn't just bolt away the second it can. Heck, that cat even looked thankful after the fact like "oh shit, you helped me? I kinda like you now"

[-] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

You didn't attack me?!? I don't need to attack you??

[-] jenny_ball@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

poor little guy!

[-] RegalPotoo@lemmy.world 53 points 11 months ago

/me adds to the list of ways America is super fucked up

In most of the rest of the western world, simply owning a trap like that is illegal - setting one will land you a serious fine and a criminal conviction. They are super dangerous, and you are just as likely to catch a person as you are an animal

[-] Madison420@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

It's almost certainly an Alaskan trap line and she's possibly commiting a felony. Lynx are fair game for certain seasons and yes the traps aren't particularly nice.

[-] Wahots@pawb.social 12 points 11 months ago

https://a-z-animals.com/blog/real-life-wonder-woman-saves-trapped-bobcat-from-trap/

It's safe, it's a coyote trap that gloms on without drawing blood or breaking bones. Can even stick your hand in it.

[-] lntl@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 months ago

they were invented to catch poor people

[-] Slovene@feddit.nl 3 points 11 months ago

Well, how else are they supposed to get the bear arms without traps?

[-] ReiRose@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Thank you this made me lol

[-] andrewta@lemmy.world 36 points 11 months ago

Here’s hoping the cat doesn’t have a serious paw injury.

[-] June@lemm.ee 35 points 11 months ago

Article I linked above says it’s a humane trap that doesn’t break bones or draw blood. So that’s good.

[-] eating3645@lemmy.world 27 points 11 months ago

I hope I never find myself living somewhere I need to keep an anti-mauling board handy for such occasions.

[-] June@lemm.ee 21 points 11 months ago

It is her trap, it’s just not meant for catching wildcats.

[-] Sh3Rm4n@feddit.de 15 points 11 months ago

Those are usually videos of people trapping the animal off camera just to look heroic when releasing them.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Do you have something to back that up?

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago

Basically animal rescue video channels are probably all fake and keep changing their names when confronted.
