yeah it's so weird that a state like Florida can't find enough teachers to work there

[-] lntl@lemmy.ml 94 points 8 months ago

good news is that it looks like there's a neighborhood in the top left that could be demolished to make room for parking and additional lanes

"Deep Geological Nuclear Waste Storage As a Service"

Save your tax payers money! Heck, reduce taxes! Instead of storing your nuclear waste on-prem, subscribe to our storage service. Since we're incorporated and immortal, you can trust that we'll be around to charge you subscription fees for your waste storage long after you're gone.

How do I sell my rights to social security benefits? How can I buy someone else's?

The business could be marketed as a "Social Security Advance" and charge a percentage.

Seems like a place that would benefit from some blasting and a good ol fashion road widening, no?

Finally NY is adding the lanes necessary to reduce congestion!

[-] lntl@lemmy.ml 50 points 9 months ago

we obviously need to take money from Amtrak and public transport grants to rebuild the interstate system. Guardrails upgraded everywhere, new lanes would be added to reduce congestion

I've been to Elkford, BC. It's a beautiful place nestled in Elk Valley. Surrounded by the Rockies on all sides and many hours from any city, it's like being on a different planet. What I remember most was the enormous mines and equipment I drove past jut before entering Elkford.

Would be a shame to further destroy the Elk Valley wilderness with a new mine and the world with the coal extracted from it.

Durability is the chief concern for wind turbines, and it becomes increasingly difficult with the size and scale of the blades. Courtesy of a thicker airfoil, a reinforced carbon fiber main beam and a metal mesh for lightning protection, Sany's SY310A blades are built to last. And although they aren't 100% recyclable, the trailing edge insert is made of recycled polyurethane structural parts that can be easily circulated after the lifespan of the turbine.

It is necessary to find cost-effective ways to replace coal with renewables or to be able to use coal and lignite in a climate-friendly way (clean coal technologies, methanol economy, carbon capture, storage, and recycling) to make decarbonization not only an alternative for rich countries, but a truly global option.

The free market cannot provide safe railways, they must be nationalized!

[-] lntl@lemmy.ml 69 points 1 year ago

how does this get covered?

there's a fella that lives in an alley near me that is always saying weird things, can we get a reporter over here and publish a story?

Haters gonna hate. Still though, they'll need to be cordial if some of these critics are also paying Ukrainian bills. Being rude is the fast track to falling out of favor with foriegn taxpayers.

This is the German plan:

  1. Shutdown the nuclear plants
  2. Burn more lignite
  3. WFH

The council said assumptions made by the transport ministry on the effectiveness of the planned and already implemented measures, such as a discounted national rail ticket, a CO2 surcharge on truck tolls and increased working from home, were also optimistic. "Private vehicle individual transport is not addressed, so to speak. And that is ultimately a gap in the transport programme," Brigitte Knopf, deputy chairwoman of the council, told a news conference presenting the report findings on Tuesday

The plan for transportation emissions, 2/3 of the target to be cut, is WFH. Yikes!
