Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

MAGA: "Let's not take down old Confederate statues. Let's erect new ones!"

[–] RaoulDuke85@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

It’s ironic that he hated universities and thought they were a waste, but made most of his money from them and died there. What a weird cycle.

I'd be incredibly curious to see what happens when it's defaced and we get to remind republicans that plaques for Emmett Till have to be fucking bulletproof.

But I thought they were against building public toilets.

Maybe they mean flaming crosses?

That's just an interactive bathroom display. Get a couple well-hydrated friends and extinguish the flames together as a bonding experience.

You might pretend you don’t give a shit…

But when you start throwing shit at them…

Technically, that’s giving a shit.

Its a fucking farce. Way to go, america.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago

This isn't all of America, it's just some of the crazy people who happen to be in power right now in the U.S.

They've been doing this shit for decades, people outside the U.S. Just weren't as aware it seems.

You should see how many confederate memorials we still have. These are memorials that commemorate slavers that fought for the "right" to own, beat, and murder people.

It's always been fucked up here. This is a fucked up country, and for some reason a lot of you folks just took all the outgoing propaganda in, and now it's just one shocked Pikachu after another.

Outside this weird Kirk chapter, there are some serious escalations taking place. This is just a distraction, though.

Holy shit they're going overboard

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

It's most definitely a dog whistle.

This guy was a racist, biggoted piece of shit. They want everyone to know this is what they stand for. They don't give an actual shit about Charlie, they just want their hateful views to remain mainstream.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is the current play they’re running. Every single bit of this is intentional, purposeful, and has historical precedent.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I really hate how everything the government does now has a direct parallel to something Nazi Germany did. Can we skip to the end of the story already

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Well, Germany didn’t have literally thousands of nukes (that are meticulously maintained and definitely do work, as opposed to Russia), and also didn’t have the strongest military in the world by an order of magnitude, so I am pretty fucking concerned about what “skipping to the end” would imply at our current juncture.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

I work for a large southern university. I can’t imagine the chaos that would happen if they tried that here.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Let them cast them from valuable metal, so at least they have a recycling value.
