That's how social media gives impression that there is more hard right people.

Unfortunately it also amplifies the existing ones, because makes them think they are the majority.

The fact that anyone believes anything anyone says online anymore is ludicrous. Opinions were swayed by bots, that then pushed legitimate people over into an unrealistic ideology. Sure, there are REAL people saying this toxic shit, but it was all pushed over the edge by bots/bad actors.

The danger comes when people think ANY of these "top comments" are what 'the public really thinks'.

We need a new net with no bots. with PRIVACY and no bots.

social media

Hell, PBS news last night kicked off with coverage of Kirk's memorial service, which they described as having a "massive" turnout. Interesting that they never used the word "massive" to describe the recent anti-MAGA protests.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pbs has gotten bad lately. One of their correspondents just endorsed the lie about command and control from gazan hospitals, he saw it first hand. Then they allow some Unapologetic is real hack to come on and lie about what they are doing with no pushback. Then stuff like this. I do not know if I can even watch them anymore if they are going to just give up and run with the party line.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I sometimes describe the PBS News Hour as "Fox News aimed at old white liberals". I've been trying to wean my parents (old white liberals) off of it, but they go all the way back to the days of The MacNeil/Lehrer report and they just can't accept that it's become something entirely different decades later. The sad thing is that watching it every night leaves them suicidally depressed but they can't stop themselves.

The spam detection works, though!

(As intended - on the ones criticising these posts.)

As a lifelong Democrat who also enjoys breathing… oxygen and eating high fructose corn syrup just like all of you, I didn't know what to make of Adolf Hitler. I've spent several lunch breaks watching his speeches (FULL videos) and have come away with the impression that we got him all wrong. The reaction from those on my side of the aisle have really made me rethink whether we’re on the right side of history.

Well, I’m crossing the aisle—I just registered as a National Socialist.

Anyone else? All of us normal and 100% human (what else would I be ha ha ha) Democrats are now going to vote for the Nazis, and so should the rest of you meatba… I mean fellow humans

Edit: the em-dash in the original post that I copy-pasted makes me suspect this was written with an LLM

Damn. When have the democrats ever really made me show more? This comment has converted me to a full blown nazi 'publican

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

I need a trans person to bash and a baby to neglect. NOW.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 54 points 1 week ago (3 children)

What I really don't understand is why are we still seeing copy-pasted messages from bots in 2025. We have LLMs now. We had for a couple of years. It's not that hard to generate unique messages. You'd think (the people operating) these bots would use that?

[–] BastingChemina@slrpnk.net 51 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bots on social media are like toupées, they look fake, unnatural and are easy to spot.

Does it mean that bots/toupees look fake and unnatural ? No, it means that we can only spot the bad ones, the good ones stay unnoticed.

All verified accounts too. 🙄

[–] REDACTED@infosec.pub 26 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's not "verified", it's "premium"

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago

Yes, but when Elon bought Twitter, he said adding a paid subscription was a way to verify accounts.

We all knew it was bullshit, but we should still call them out on lying.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Reminder to everyone: you can monetize being a blue-check twitter user if you get enough followers and engagement.

It's not much, but in places like India and other countries, it's more than enough to live on, and as a result there are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of shill accounts based in India and other countries, who just circulate each other, follow each other, retweet each other and recycle the same Grok talking points and hollow phrases all day, every day.

Our entire political landscape is being propped up on the backs of people who do not know or care about what happens in the USA and are just shaving off as much as they can by riding along like the remoras that follow sharks.

This is genuinely depressing. This isn't people getting their orders and posting thusly, this is one asshole with their bot accounts. Most of Social Media is malarkey, Dead Internet Theory will slowly become true as AI invades more and more spaces.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 43 points 1 week ago

Most of our social media is filtered through 5 American corporations, all of whom are intensely interested in AI.

[–] wulrus@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

Sad thing is that in this day and age, they'd hardly need to lift a finger to have this rephrased 100 times. But they know they don't have to. People eat up the garbage from their feed, people (often the same) know that a lot of it is Russian bots.

p. s: Still surprised how poorly ChatGPT-5 Thinking handled this. A lot of obvious bot content, such as "weeks of uncut videos and policy dives" by a Democrat, "attended a live event" etc.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 12 points 1 week ago

At this point, I think it's a feature. Just like how when Russia does propaganda, they lie so big it's easily disproven, so once someone bites down on it they're pulled into a fake world

The old style of US propaganda was to flood the zone - bury what you want to hide out in the open and add so much more information people can't be bothered to learn about it.

The new style (even before chat gpt) seems to be an ocean of bots and bullshit. Who cares if you can spot a bot if you already don't trust anyone online? It's destroying organic communication so we're forced to go to a central source, which are controlled

So am I one of those people who used to be a huge conservative and I did listen to Charlie years and years ago. I watched way too many of his little debates.

But once you get out of the echo chambers and start questioning anything he said, you would be attacked instantly by the right.

Charlies main thing was to take someone's serious question, and focus on one little part he could exploit and drill them for it. It was a great way for his supporters to say "YEAHHHH GET EM!!!" While the person asking the question never got an actual answer and instead was laughed at and mocked.

It was all propaganda and designed to separate people and he was a horrible person.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

As a lifelong idiot, I watched Charlie Kirk say that he's nervous when he sees a black pilot. That's what confirmed what everyone else was saying. He is a horrible gifter that uses racist language to make money. I don't give a crap how his racist family and friends feel. Fuck toilet paper USA.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

I'm not going to pretend to be sad when a Nazi receives what he wanted to give.

IP: Russia.

I have no proof of the three specific users in the screenshot being Russian, but they do the exact same thing to neighbouring European states to drive division and push them to far right leaders, who are easier to corrupt and onboard for Putin/Russia. Right now they're kicking out a whole lot of Charlie Kirk misinformation to capitalize on fractures in the US.

That's giving them too much credit, I'm sure many of these are also Republicans pretending to be Democrats. After all, it's what Kirk would've done

As a black man...

As a lifelong human person, I enjoy a hearty meal of fresh data sets.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago

It's not even halfway decent writing. It's quite obvious that many or most mainstream Democrats do not represent left-wing voters, because they're centrist and pro-corporate, and a lot of the voters are not.

If you're going to have your bots doing s***, why not get a halfway realistic message for them to spread?

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

As a lifelong chicken, I don't know what to make of Colonel Sanders. I've since spent several factory-farm feeding sessions, watching his cooking lessons (FULL live-in-person-show), and have come away with the impression that we, chicken-kind, got him all wrong. The reactions from my species — have really made me question my entire existence.
